Troubleshooting Methodologies and Tools Questions
Demonstrate a systematic approach to diagnosing and resolving production and operational problems. Core skills include collecting symptoms and context, reproducing issues when possible, isolating components, forming and testing hypotheses, distinguishing root cause from symptoms, and documenting findings. Be familiar with common diagnostic utilities and techniques such as ping, curl, packet capture, tcpdump, netstat, strace, lsof, process inspection, log aggregation, metrics and tracing, and how to interpret error messages. Interviewers assess methodical thinking, prioritization under time pressure, and the choice of appropriate tools and escalation paths.
