Experimentation at Apple likely uses randomized trials and careful instrumentation while minimizing raw data exposure. Privacy adaptations: run experiments with on-device randomization and local aggregation, report only cohort-level metrics with differential privacy noise, and require minimum cohort sizes before analysis. Compared to less-private companies, Apple would avoid storing user-level experiment logs centrally and instead use aggregated metrics and federated analytics; statistical pipelines must account for added noise and potential slower convergence, so larger sample sizes or longer experiments may be needed. The trade-off is stronger user trust and legal safety at the cost of some statistical power and complexity in analysis.
