We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Assistant Accountant to join our COO Finance team. This role offers the opportunity to study for an accounting qualification, alongside your day-to-day role.

The COO Finance Team is at the core of the activities that deliver against our Strategic Drivers. Our role is to manage and maintain Nationwide’s financial strength, by ensuring we are spending our members money wisely and helping build great customer propositions to maximise income potential.

You will be supporting a team of Accountants within the COO Finance team who Partner across various change and BAU portfolios. Helping to ensure the month end is accurately represented, aiding in the preparation of forecasts and giving you valuable insight into how the Society’s investment portfolios are financially managed to deliver more for our Customers.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Assistant Accountant you will take ownership for core accounting processes, using your experience to plan and deliver these activities accurately and on time. You will be analysing data and producing reports which will help us have insightful conversations with our stakeholders. You will be building broad relationships across the business and working with them closely to drive good data quality and financial process.

Your nature will need to be one of inquisitiveness, as well as having an appetite to challenge and improve existing processes.

We would expect you to either be part-qualified or studying for an accounting qualification alongside your day-to-day role.

About you

As a minimum you will have:

• AAT qualification or equivalent experience
• Good A Levels or accountancy focused qualification
• Have achieved grade A-C/5-9 in Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent)
• Actively studying for a professional accountancy qualification
• Have advanced experience of using excel to analyse numerical data, using formulae and pivot tables
• An ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities
