Ideation and Prototyping Questions

Focuses on generating, exploring, validating, and communicating multiple design concepts through rapid and deliberate prototyping. Candidates should demonstrate ideation techniques, breadth and speed of divergent thinking, explicit decision criteria for converging on a direction, and justification of chosen concepts based on user needs, technical feasibility, and business impact. This topic includes rapid sketching, wireframing, and creating low and high fidelity prototypes; practices for iterating based on user and stakeholder feedback; validation strategies such as usability testing and metrics; and trade off analysis between alternatives. It also covers prototype craftsmanship and developer hand off including interaction specifications, user flows, micro interactions, animations, error states, edge cases, performance considerations, visual polish, and effective communication of prototypes to stakeholders and engineers.

Design an end-to-end ideation and prototyping approach to select and validate five feature ideas for a complex enterprise product used by multiple user segments across regulated regions. Include divergence techniques, convergence criteria, fidelity choices per experiment, research & validation tactics, timeline, stakeholder alignment cadence, and compliance/data-privacy checkpoints.

Describe how you would incorporate accessibility testing into each iteration of a prototype. Cover which automated checks you’d run, manual validations you’d perform, how you’d recruit participants with disabilities, and how you’d balance accessibility fixes with visual polish under tight deadlines.

You have a limited research budget and need to validate three prototype directions. Design a mixed-method plan that mixes guerrilla testing, remote unmoderated tests, and lightweight instrumentation. Explain sampling strategy, which prototype to test with which method, and how you'd prioritize one direction with limited evidence.

You are running a 2-day design sprint focused on ideation and prototype testing. Draft a schedule with activities, deliverables at the end of each day, required roles (PM, Eng, Research), and the artifacts you'd prepare for rapid engineering handoff immediately after the sprint.

Design error states and edge-case flows for an image-upload form used on unreliable networks. Include microcopy for each error, retry and backoff strategies, visible sync states (queued, uploading, failed), and how you would prototype fallback behavior so users and engineers can test recoverability.
