• Timeline and blast radius: exact sequence of events, timestamps, how autoscaler decisions propagated and which services were impacted.
• Configuration provenance: who changed autoscaler settings, why (PR/rollback/templating), and whether it was reviewed/tested.
• Monitoring/alerting gaps: which alerts fired (or didn’t), alert thresholds, and whether runbooks existed and were followed.
• Capacity & load assumptions: documentation of expected traffic patterns, load tests, and SLOs/error budgets tied to autoscaling behavior.
• Automation safety nets: presence/absence of rate limits, cooldowns, circuit breakers, pod disruption budgets, and resource quotas.
• Recovery procedures and toil: how manual the recovery was, hours spent, and recurring incidents indicating systemic debt.
• Change management and testing: CI/CD practices, canary/a/b deployments, and whether autoscaler changes had staging validation.

Three concrete actions to prevent recurrence

1. Harden autoscaler configs and guardrails

   • Add sane defaults: min/max replicas, CPU/memory caps, cooldown periods, and scale-step limits.
   • Implement resource quotas and PDBs to prevent cascading evictions.
   • Enforce these via validated infrastructure-as-code templates and GitOps with PR reviews.

2. Improve observability and automated alarms

Three critical alerts (severity P0/P1) with thresholds and intent:

1. P0 — Global error-rate spike: success rate < 99.9% over 5m AND error-rate increase > 3x baseline -> trigger immediate page. Rationale: direct user impact and SLO breach risk.
2. P0 — Latency SLO breach: P99 latency > SLO threshold (e.g., 800ms) sustained for 5m AND affecting >5% of requests -> page. Rationale: degraded UX at scale.

Plan (prioritized, with examples and guardrails)

This approach balances privacy, cost, and practical debugging: short-term relabeling for immediate relief, medium-term recording rules and sampling to retain usefulness, and CI guardrails to prevent regressions.

First, translate the public claims into precise SLIs and SLOs.

• SLIs (what to measure):

  • Availability SLI: fraction of successful API requests (HTTP 2xx) over total valid requests, across global regions.
  • Latency SLI: 95th-percentile request latency (end-to-end from client to backend response) for successful requests.

• SLOs (target over a rolling window, e.g., 30 days):

  • Availability SLO: 99.95% of valid requests succeed in 30-day window.
  • Latency SLO: 95th-percentile latency ≤ 200 ms in 30-day window.

Instrumenting & measuring:

• Collect metrics at ingress/load-balancer/proxy layer and application service to capture request timestamps, status codes, and latency histograms (use OpenTelemetry / Prometheus + histogram or summary).
• Tag metrics with region, endpoint, and client type to support global aggregation and filtering.
• Define client-facing success (e.g., HTTP 2xx) and exclude non-user traffic (health checks, bots) consistently.

Handling ambiguity:

• Clarify implicit terms with stakeholders: measurement point (edge vs. backend), definition of “uptime” (error code thresholds, planned maintenance), traffic scope (public API only?), and aggregation (global vs per-region).
• If clarification not possible, document assumptions explicitly (e.g., measuring at global ingress, success=2xx, 30-day rolling window) and show effects of alternate reasonable interpretations.
• Include tests/synthetic probes to validate public claim and publish metric definitions so SLA consumers understand exactly what is being measured.

This approach yields actionable SLIs/SLOs, measurable instrumentation, and a clear monthly error-budget calculation while surfacing and resolving ambiguity.

Goal: attribute subscription revenue across multiple touchpoints with limited cross-device identifiers. Constraints: privacy, fragmented identity, subscriptions spanning devices.
Methodology:

1. Create a probabilistic identity graph combining deterministic signals (Apple ID, subscription token) and privacy-safe probabilistic linking (device fingerprinting hashes, IP/geo + time-window) with confidence scores. Primary key: subscription_id (deterministic); map touchpoints to subscription_id when possible.
2. Attribution model: multi-touch fractional model weighted by recency, engagement, and channel lift. Steps:

• For deterministic-linked events (App Store discovery click, in-app events), assign higher weight.
• For probabilistic links, scale weight by confidence score.
• Use a time-decay kernel (e.g., exponential) to weight touches before subscription event.
