Technical Project Stories Questions

Prepare two to four hands on technical project narratives that demonstrate engineering depth, architectural thinking, and measurable outcomes. For each project describe the business problem, system architecture or design choices, trade offs evaluated, scaling and reliability challenges, instrumentation or observability decisions, implementation details and technologies used, your specific responsibilities, and the measurable results achieved. Be prepared to dive deep on technical decisions, show diagrams or component flows if asked, describe how technical debt and operational run book items were managed, and explain how the work influenced broader engineering practices. Include examples across front end, back end, infrastructure, data, and security as relevant to the role.

When presenting a system architecture in an interview, what components, failure domains and data flows do you include on one slide? Show a concise example diagram (ASCII or bulleted layout) that you would draw for a public-facing microservice with a cache, message queue, and upstream third-party API.

Walk me through a project in which you formalized SLOs and integrated them into CI/CD and operations. Explain how SLOs were represented in dashboards, how automated gates used error budget, how ownership was assigned, and any organizational changes that resulted.

Choose one of your project stories and draw a component-level architecture diagram showing service boundaries, protocols, load balancers, caches, queues, and failover paths. Explain why you chose each component boundary, the communication protocol (HTTP/gRPC/AMQP), and how you validated the architecture under realistic load.

How would you structure two-to-four technical project stories to present in an SRE interview so they demonstrate engineering depth and breadth across frontend, backend, infrastructure, data, and security? Provide a short template for each story and explain why you chose those elements.

Describe how you implemented canary deployments (Kubernetes or other platform) with automated promotion/rollback. Include the pipeline steps, metrics used to evaluate canary health, rollout percentages, time windows, and how you validated the automatic rollback logic safely.
