Vision and Strategic Leadership Questions

Year 1–3 contribution plan (Solutions Architect) — goal: accelerate Lyft’s mission across accessibility, sustainability, and rider safety via scalable technical solutions that also enable sales/enterprise adoption.

Initiative A — Inclusive Routing & Accessibility API

• What: Build wheelchair- and low-mobility-aware routing + standardized Accessibility API for partners.
• Outcomes: 95% coverage of accessible routing in top 50 cities; Accessibility API adopted by 3 large healthcare/campus partners; reduce trip cancellations for mobility riders by 30%.
• Dependencies: Product (UX), Maps/Geodata, Core Routing, Data, Legal (privacy), Sales/Partnerships.
• Me role: define architecture, data model, partner integration patterns, pilot with 1 large partner.

Initiative B — EV & Low-Emission Fleet Enablement

• What: Platform services for EV routing, charging station integration, and carbon attribution per trip.
• Outcomes: Enable 200k EV trips/month on platform; provide per-trip CO2 estimates with 90% accuracy; support 2 enterprise sustainability dashboards.
• Dependencies: Infrastructure, Maps, Payments, Fleet Ops, Data Science.
• Me role: design scalable microservices, standards for telemetry ingestion, partner API.

Initiative C — Real-time Safety Detection & Response Fabric

• What: Event-driven system (telemetry + ML signals) for proactive incident detection and frictionless escalation.
• Outcomes: 40% faster incident detection; 20% reduction in severe safety incident recurrence; integrate with Safety Ops and 911 handoff.
• Dependencies: Mobile, Telemetry, ML, Safety Ops, Legal.
• Me role: architect event pipeline, define signal taxonomy, SLOs, and integration patterns for third-party responders.

Initiative D — Enterprise Solutions & Reporting for Mission Metrics

• What: Packaged enterprise offerings (APIs, dashboards) for partners to report accessibility & sustainability metrics.
• Outcomes: $X revenue from 5 enterprise customers; adoption increases partner retention by 15%.
• Dependencies: Sales, Finance, Analytics, Security.
• Me role: build reference architectures, integration guides, security/compliance blueprints.

Stakeholder buy-in & resourcing (concise)

• Start with high-impact pilots (cities/partners) to show metric uplift and revenue potential.
• Secure exec sponsor(s) in Product + Safety + Partnerships by aligning initiatives to OKRs (growth, retention, trust).
• Produce roadmap with phased MVPs, cost/benefit analysis, and clear KPIs; present a 12–18 month funding ask tied to pilot success criteria.
• Leverage cross-functional working groups, reuseable architecture patterns, and partner cost-sharing where possible to reduce runway.
• Regularly surface demoable outcomes to Sales and Execs to unlock further resourcing and enterprise commitments.

Situation: Our company has strong platform capabilities but hasn't entered the renewable-energy asset management market — a space I care about and where several target customers (asset owners and O&M providers) are asking for better telemetry, predictive maintenance, and regulatory reporting.

Hypothesis:

• If we deliver a lightweight, secure integration layer + analytics for asset telemetry and automated compliance reports, then 3 pilot customers will adopt within 6 months and generate a repeatable $1M ARR stream in 18 months.

Stakeholder alignment:

• Sales: define target account list, commercial approach, and pilot contract terms.
• Product: prioritize APIs, data model, and UX hooks.
• Engineering: estimate effort, define integration patterns and security requirements.
• Legal/Compliance: data residency and consent constraints.
• Customer Success & Ops: onboarding and SLAs.
  I’ll run a 2-hour kickoff with RACI, success criteria, risks, and decision checkpoints; weekly syncs and a shared OKR board.

MVP / POC:

• Build a POC connector pipeline (edge → cloud) + canonical schema, a rules engine for anomaly detection, and one automated regulatory report.
• Deploy with one pilot customer for 3 months, using our cloud infra and a sandbox tenant.
• Deliverables: integration guide, demo scripts for sales, security attestation.

Success metrics:

• Leading: time-to-first-ingested-device, integration time per customer, pilot NPS.
• Outcome: reduction in unplanned downtime (%) for pilot, number of contracts signed post-pilot, ARR pipeline value, CAC payback.
• Operational: mean time to onboard, API latency, data integrity rate.

Scaling approach:

• After validated POC and two paying pilots, productize connectors (templated adapters), harden multi-tenant security, add configurable analytics modules, and create a self-service onboarding flow.
• Enable sales with technical playbooks, ROI calculators, and reference architecture diagrams; train sellers via joint customer workshops.
• Operationalize support and SLA tiers; instrument telemetry to monitor adoption and automate billing metrics.
• Iterate roadmap using customer feedback and move from bespoke pilots to verticalized packaged offerings (e.g., solar farm bundle, wind-turbine bundle).

Leadership & seller collaboration:

• I’ll act as the technical face in executive sponsor meetings, translate business asks into trade-off decisions, and co-create the pilot contract with sales (limiting custom scope, defining success). I’ll embed an engineer with the sales team for demos and ensure post-sale handoff via joint runbooks so revenue and delivery are tightly coupled.
