Description

Job Summary
Astro Hill is looking for a full-time Operations Manager based in Iqaluit, NU.

Reporting directly to the Director of Property Management, this is a hands-on role responsible for leading building operations, maintenance, and facilities teams across Astro Hill’s residential and commercial properties. The role oversees a team of approximately 16 employees, ensuring efficient day-to-day performance, safety, and quality service delivery.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing daily building operations, maintenance, and repair activities across multiple properties
  • Leading, mentoring, and supporting a team of trades and maintenance staff to ensure consistent performance
  • Conducting regular property and mechanical system inspections to identify issues and implement proactive solutions
  • Managing boiler, glycol heating, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems to ensure optimal operation
  • Coordinating and prioritizing maintenance schedules, service requests, and preventative maintenance programs
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards
  • Supporting capital projects and renovations by coordinating contractors and suppliers
  • Monitoring budgets, inventory, and resource allocation to maintain operational efficiency
  • Liaising with tenants and other departments to resolve maintenance and operational concerns promptly
  • Leading by example to foster a safe, efficient, and accountable work culture
  • Participating in on-call rotation and responding to after-hours emergencies as required

About You

To qualify, you will need a Class 3 Power Engineering Certificate or a Journeyperson HVAC Certificate. A minimum of 6 years of experience in property, building, or facilities operations is essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Strong technical knowledge of boiler plants, plumbing, or glycol-heated systems
  • Proven ability to manage maintenance operations and coordinate renovations or capital projects
  • Experience monitoring and managing departmental budgets, work orders, and preventative maintenance schedules
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in residential or commercial settings

As our ideal candidate, you are practical, hands-on, and action-oriented, leading by example to maintain safe, efficient, and well-functioning facilities. Highly organized and task-focused, you set clear expectations for your team and understand how day-to-day operational decisions affect financial outcomes.

This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for a seasoned facilities or operations professional who thrives in a structured, fast-paced environment—someone who can balance hands-on technical oversight with strategic leadership, ensuring Astro Hill’s properties operate seamlessly year-round.
