Position Overview and Purpose
The Field Sales Engineer, C&I Mission: The Field Sales Engineer (FSE), Commercial & Industrial serves as a technical, customer-facing sales professional responsible for driving profitable growth through consultative selling of Baseline Energy Services’ critical power solutions.
This role requires experience selling medium-to-long term, behind the meter (BTM) critical power solutions to Commercial & Industrial customers. The Field Sales Engineer must be comfortable navigating multi-year commercial agreements, complex customer decision processes and solutions that integrate power generation, fuel strategy, uptime requirements, and lifecycle economics. Success in this role depends on the ability to sell longer-duration, infrastructure-like power solutions.
This role blends business development, technical solutions, and disciplined deal execution, working directly with end users, EPC’s, electrical contractors, engineers, and strategic partners across Baseline’s priority C&I verticals.
The Field sales engineer is expected to operate with hands-on, field-first mindset, developing new customer relationships, expanding existing accounts, and advancing qualified opportunities through Baseline’s sales and operational processes. Success in this role requires strong technical credibility, commercial judgment, and close collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Operations to deliver repeatable, margin-accretive growth.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Coverage
- Identify, target, and pursue new customers within priority verticals (including, but not limited to:, Water/Wastewater, Food & Beverage, Industrial & Manufacturing, Mining, Multi-Site Distribution).
- Develop and execute a regional sales plan aligned with Baseline’s commercial strategy and capital deployment priorities.
- Actively prospect and obtain new qualified opportunities with end users, EPC, electrical contractors and engineering firms.
- Secure MSAs and preferred-provider relationships with new customers.
Consultative & Technical Sales
- Serve as a technical advisor to customers, helping define power requirements, system sizing, fuel options, redundancy, and deployment configurations.
- Support the development and sale of medium-to-long-term BTM power solutions, including multi-year deployments requiring commercial, technical and operational alignment.
- Develop and present customized power solutions, proposals, and commercial recommendations aligned with customer needs and Baseline’s operating model.
- Maintain working knowledge of Baseline’s power generation offerings including natural gas and diesel generation, power distribution, hybrid solutions, and related services.
- Support site walks, technical discussions, and solution validation in coordination with Engineering and Operations.
Opportunity Management & Execution:
- Own opportunity development from initial qualification through contract execution, ensuring alignment with pricing discipline, margin targets and risk parameters.
- Maintain accurate, timely opportunity data in Salesforce (CRM), including stage progression, probability, forecast timing, and deal economics.
- Participate in structured deal reviews to confirm deal quality, execution readiness and operational alignment.
- Ensure smooth handoff of closed projects to Operations and Account Management, supporting continuity through execution as needed.
Account Development & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customer stakeholders and influencers.
- Expand account penetration by identifying incremental opportunities and cross-sell use cases.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers during the sales cycle and early execution phases.
- Ensure expectations are being met and identify follow-on opportunities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with Solutions, Operations, Marketing and Leadership to deliver a seamless customer experience.
- Provide market and customer feedback to support product development, service enhancements, and go-to-market strategy.
- Participate in sales meetings, pipeline reviews, and planning sessions as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related technical field preferred; equivalent technical sales experience considered.
- 5+ years of experience in technical B2B sales, preferably within power generation, electrical systems, industrial equipment, or adjacent C&I competencies.
- Demonstrated success selling medium-to-long term, behind-the-meter (BTM) power or energy solutions to C&I customers, including multi-year commercial agreements and complex buying committees.
- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and standard business tools (Microsoft Office, Outlook).
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable operating independently in a field-based role.
- Willingness to travel 30-50%.
