The DLR Institute of Space Research in Berlin-Adlershof is a world-leading centre of excellence for optical sensor systems and their application in planetary research, Earth observation and security. In this way, we expand humanity’s understanding of the origin and evolution of our planetary system and find solutions to protect life on Earth. With around 300 staff members, we cover the entire development chain, from the initial research idea through to the design, construction and verification of instruments, their operational use, and on to the processing, scientific analysis and archiving of the data obtained. We are partners to universities, research institutions, industry, public authorities and policy-makers, and work closely with them.
What to expect
As a research assistant in our ‘Computational Camera and Sensing Systems’ department, you will be part of an experienced, dynamic team working on sensor-based artificial intelligence, computational sensing techniques and algorithms, and the modelling of the optical measurement systems built at the institute.
Our department plays a key role in the development of state-of-the-art methods for image and signal processing. Furthermore, through the simulation and validation of data, we make an important contribution to the development cycle of optical systems.
In this role, we need you to work alongside other colleagues on our projects. Following an induction period, you will be given responsibility for projects.
Your tasks
- Co-development, implementation and testing of new image and signal processing methods using artificial intelligence
- Documenting your comments in your source code
- Project work within a team
- Supervising students and contributing to publications and scientific presentations
- Presenting your results at international conferences
Your profile
- A completed academic degree (Master’s/Diploma) in engineering (e.g. Computer Science) or the natural sciences (e.g. Physics) or other degree programmes relevant to the role
- Experience with image and signal processing algorithms
- Experience with artificial intelligence methods and systems
- Experience with the programming languages C, C++ and/or Python
- Excellent written and spoken English and German
Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 13 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks.
