Reporting directly to the executive leadership, this role oversees financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, payer-reimbursement processes, compliance, and billing operations to optimize clinic profitability and sustainable growth. The ideal candidate will combine deep knowledge of outpatient physical therapy billing practices with strategic financial leadership, ensuring Champion’s operational success and financial health.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Management
Develop and implement the financial roadmap for the clinic network including budgeting, forecasting, P&L oversight, margin improvement initiatives, and capital allocation.
Monitor key financial metrics (visit volume, revenue per encounter, payer mix, reimbursement rates, cost per visit) and provide actionable insights to leadership.
Work closely with operations and clinical leadership to align financial goals with patient care initiatives, service-line performance and clinic expansion strategies.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and present findings to executive team, including variance analysis, risk assessment and strategic recommendations.
Revenue Cycle & Billing Operations
Oversee the end-to-end revenue cycle: patient eligibility/insurance verification, charge capture, claim submission, denial management, reimbursement follow-up and accounts receivable optimization.
Ensure compliance with outpatient therapy billing regulations, coding standards (CPT/HCPCS), payer contracts, audit readiness and external regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for billing & collections, implement best practices for documentation compliance, and train billing and clinical staff accordingly.
Lead the billing team, set performance targets, define dashboards for key performance indicators (average days in A/R, denial rate, net collection rate), and conduct ongoing process improvement to reduce leakage and improve cash flow.
Collaborate with IT or EMR system teams to ensure billing/billing system integration, data integrity, and analytic capabilities for revenue cycle dashboards.
Growth & Operational Support
Support clinic expansion and new service-line launches by providing financial modeling, reimbursement risk assessment, pricing strategies and billing workflow design.
Partner with clinic operations and leadership on equipment purchasing, staffing models, and cost-control measures to ensure new or existing clinics operate profitably and efficiently.
Manage vendor relationships for billing services, outsourced coding or analytic platforms, and negotiate contracts to optimize cost structure and performance.
Stay current with industry trends in outpatient therapy reimbursement, payer policy changes, legislation and compliance requirements, and proactively update clinic policies accordingly.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration or related field required; Master’s degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.
8–10+ years of progressive experience in healthcare finance or billing operations, with significant exposure to outpatient physical therapy or rehabilitation services.
Demonstrated experience in revenue cycle management, coding/compliance (therapy CPT codes), payer contract negotiations, denial management, and financial leadership.
Strong analytical skills, business acumen and ability to interpret complex financial and operational data and present strategic recommendations.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills—able to collaborate across clinical, operational and executive teams.
Proficiency in financial systems, billing/EMR systems, dashboards and Microsoft Excel (including modeling, pivot tables, and reporting).
High integrity, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and commitment to driving performance in a growth-oriented environment.
Benefits
Competitive executive compensation package including base salary and performance-based incentive tied to financial targets and clinic growth.
Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision) for full-time staff.
Generous paid time off (vacation, personal leave, holidays) plus flexible scheduling options when supporting a multi-site network.
Retirement savings plan with employer match and financial wellness resources.
Continuing education support, leadership development funding and opportunities for professional certification in healthcare finance or billing compliance.
Annual leadership retreat, wellness program, and team-building events across clinic locations.
Relocation assistance and sign-on bonus for qualified candidates relocating to growth markets.
Opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the financial strategy and operational success of a growing outpatient therapy network
