Purpose of Position: |
The Sr. Director Human Resources position has an emphasis on employee relations. The main area of responsibility is to serve as a resource to management and employees in solving complex and day-to-day workplace matters. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining strong partnerships with business executives in supporting their objectives, and in creating proactive programs to give managers the necessary tools to identify, resolve, and possibly avoid employee relations issues. Additional responsibilities will include corporate training and employee development, benefits administration, management of employee leaves of absences, worker’s compensation programs, recruiting and other HR generalist functions as assigned. The Sr. Director Human Resources will supervise the performance of a team and the operational efficiency of a department. |
Essential Functions: |
Human Resources Operations (including Training and Licensing Compliance) & Employee Relations
- Participate as a critical business partner to consult, plan, develop and guide management in all areas of human resources and to ensure alignment with business needs.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Partner with Corporate Training Manager to develop and facilitate Human Resource training programs.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints, issues and concerns regarding employment practices originating from various sources.
- Strategize regarding appropriate corrective action and work with respective managers to implement such action.
- Execute and monitor grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures to ensure fairness and consistency.
- Proactively coach and counsel for optimal performance and resolution of employee relations issues.
- Effectively identify core issues within and successfully navigate through gray areas of employee relations.
- Audits organization to identify employee relations issues and recommends appropriate actions to address and resolve those issues.
- Coordinate all appropriate employee termination procedures, including assisting with termination meetings.
- Oversee and supervise the tracking and monitoring of company and employee licensing and certification requirements.
Benefits & Leave Administration
- Oversee the administration of all leave of absences. Provide guidance to Benefits & Leave Director and Specialist to assist with the support of employees and managers with accurate information regarding, leaves of absence, FMLA, ADA, PDL, CFRA, Workers Comp. and other HR programs and policies. Produce weekly and monthly metrics on leave of absence.
- Oversee and supervise the completion of all EDD forms. Will attend appeals when necessary.
- Proficiently manage the day-to-day administration of employee benefits, including overseeing the Open Enrollment process.
- Assist with the administration of Performance Management and Compensation systems.
- Oversee the creation, implementation, and execution of Employee Mentor, Career Ladders and Employee Resource Group Programs with collaboration of Benefits & Leave and Training areas of HR.
Management
- Demonstrate high level knowledge of all normal, daily tasks of the unit/department.
- Answer questions from team members on the overall operations of the department.
- Delegate work as needed to ensure even distribution of workload amongst team.
- Proactively and continually look for ways to improve the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of the department.
- Develop, plan, and implement new processes or procedures.
- Ensure the complete and thorough training and coaching of team members to support the successful completion of their tasks.
- Establish, support, and foster a positive work environment, where ideas and concerns can be openly discussed.
- Address performance issues, including time and attendance, with employees. Follow progressive discipline process where needed, including the writing of Warnings.
- Make decisions on hiring and firings.
- Manage the staffing processes, including overseeing the entering of requisitions, interviewing candidates, promotions, demotions, etc.
- Manage department budget for all controllable expenses.
- On-site regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other business tasks or functions as assigned.
