Description

The Associate Dean for Strategic Transformation will lead the college’s efforts around a variety of initiatives, including: program review, departmental/school reconfiguration, curricular and programmatic offerings, strategic planning, faculty effort, and student advising. The associate dean will work collaboratively with the dean and the faculty to create the necessary processes, systems, and structures for these academic transformation efforts. At times, the role will require leading initiatives and at other times will serve in a support capacity. This role is part of a reconfiguration of the dean’s leadership team. Accordingly, the exact contours of each associate dean’s portfolio might collaboratively shift and other duties may be assigned as the team coalesces.

This is a 12-month appointment, beginning July 1, 2026. This position is renewable for an additional one-year (12 month) term, for a total of two years in the role. While structured as a 12-month appointment, summer term will provide opportunity for time off.

The compensation for this role is an annual administrative stipend of $25,000. The faculty member in this role will be expected to:

  • Maintain up to a one-course annual teaching load
  • No departmental service or participation in routine departmental meetings and affairs

Essential Functions

The Associate Dean for Strategic Transformation will collaborate with the dean, associate deans, staff, and faculty colleagues within CAHSS and across the university on the following functions:

  • Provide support for all CAHSS departments and programs that are restructuring including: facilitation; ex-officio chairing; liaise with central university departments; conducting research on best practices; creating by-laws, MOUs, and other processes; drafting related guidance documents.
  • Develop the college’s process for annual program review, including: identifying appropriate metrics; process for gathering quantitative and qualitative data; process for reviewing data; action planning.
  • Support departments to review their curricular offerings and programs, revise offerings as necessary, and complete the process to update the bulletin and other necessary university documents
  • Support a faculty and staff led team to engage in further development of the college’s career readiness offerings, including identifying steps needed to achieve college-level goals, monitoring and tracking key performance indicators of student success, and reporting progress.
  • Conduct a faculty workload assessment and propose modifications such as adjustments to teaching load, research expectations, service expectations, and internal and external buyout process.
  • Assess current student advising model and propose new models to provide students high-quality support and reduce faculty workload.
  • In collaboration with the AD of Faculty Success, identify and implement efforts to better support faculty scholarship, research, and creative work.
  • Support other projects related to CAHSS academic transformation efforts as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to provide high-level project management support to a broad variety of academic programs and protocols.
  • Ability to manage resources, monitor activities, and assess risks and quality issues associated with the program/project.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for partnering with leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, directors of undergraduate studies, enrollment teams, academic advisors, and senior college leadership.
  • Ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions.
  • Uses information to determine benefits and impact in making decision and/or recommendations.
  • Ability to quickly resolve operational and compliance issues and make sound decisions in complex environments
  • Ability to impact and influence others to further the institution's strategic objectives.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information and the message.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time, tenured or teaching line associate or full faculty member at the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Strong demonstration of leadership at the department, college, and/or university level
  • Terminal degree in their field

Working Environment

• Standard office environment.
• Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
• Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

• Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is an annual administrative stipend of $25,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
