Description

About Kiso

Kiso Technology is a firm based in San Francisco that develops algorithms, models, and software systems to solve complex problems in a variety of domains. Clients range from early-stage startups to some of the largest companies in the world.

About the role

As a Member of the Technical Staff, you will join a team with deep expertise in machine learning, optimization, data science, and software engineering. You will work on small, focused project teams (typically 2-4 people) to address complex strategic questions and deliver end-to-end solutions to ambiguous questions like “How can we manage our inventory more efficiently?” and “Why are we losing customers?”

Our technical staff own this entire process—from framing the problem to building a solution and ensuring it drives lasting impact. Some examples of solutions we might deliver:

  • Coherent hierarchical probabilistic forecasting model, for thousands of products with intermittent demand

  • Real-time delivery route planner, accounting for traffic conditions and live order changes

  • Core recommender system for a dating app

  • LLM-based agent to answer customer questions, given a proprietary data lake with unstructured conversations

While our work is highly collaborative, you do need to be self-directed and able to work independently.

We are looking for:

  • Strong skills and professional experience in at least one of:

    • software engineering in a collaborative, production environment

    • applied math, e.g., AI, operations research, statistics, probability, and/or machine learning

  • Excellent communication skills, can distill technical concepts for non-technical audiences

  • Comfort in a client-facing role

Nice to have:

  • PhD in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related field

  • Successful track record leading large-scale technical projects, especially in a customer-facing role

  • Deep expertise and/or thought leadership in a technical field (e.g. influential writing, strong publication record, professorship)

This is an in-person role, based out of our office in San Francisco. We offer relocation assistance for new employees and highly-competitive compensation.

The base salary range for this role is $110,000-$400,000. We also offer a generous performance-based bonus and an array of company benefits.
