Description
The HR Safety Specialist combines workplace safety and workers’ compensation administration with core HR support functions. This role ensures effective injury management, regulatory compliance, and seamless HR operations while supporting a safe and productive work environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead by Example by Championing the Company’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values in every action and decision.
- Coordinate recruitment activities, including job postings, interviews, and candidate communication.
- Support onboarding, new hire orientation, and employment documentation.
- Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy within HRIS systems and personnel systems.
- Assist with leave of absence administration (FMLA/PLOA) and employee inquiries.
- Support benefits administration, payroll audits, and HR compliance activities.
- Prepare termination documentation and assist with offboarding processes.
- Participate in the development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and ongoing reports for company requirements.
- Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating events.
- Adheres to all safety guidelines, Standards of Performance (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs), and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).
- Assist with additional duties or projects as assigned by leadership.
Safety & Workers’ Compensation:
- Administer workers’ compensation claims, including reporting, tracking, and coordination with third-party administrators.
- Serve as primary contact for workplace injuries, incident reporting, and investigations.
- Coordinate return-to-work and modified duty programs in partnership with leadership.
- Track lost time, restricted duty, and claim trends; maintain accurate records and reporting.
- Support safety audits, compliance activities, and hazard identification efforts.
- Promote safety awareness and reinforce a culture of accountability and injury prevention.
- Leads the safety committee.
- Facilitate monthly safety training.
- Coordinates and administers all on-site hazardous materials.
- Support environmental compliance programs to help ensure adherence to applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including maintaining documentation, assisting with reporting and permit tracking, coordinating hazardous waste manifest processes, supporting required training activities, and helping maintain related policies and procedures.
- Facilitates contractor safety orientation programs.
- Manage compliance environment calendar.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Occupational Safety, or related field, or equivalent education and experience preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- 1-3+ years of HR, safety, or workers’ compensation experience preferred.
- Must have a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Must adhere to company policies.
- Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must know a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software (MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
- Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to multitask competing responsibilities and demands.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position. At times, the incumbent will be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Specific visual abilities required for this job include close, distance, color, and depth vision. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Tree Nuts, Milk/Dairy, eggs, etc.
