Hillside Fellowship

Communications Department  |  Full-Time  |  Exempt

Reports To: Communications Team Lead

Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Creative Communications Specialist supports Hillside Fellowship's mission by creating compelling visual and digital communications that clearly communicate the life, ministries, and mission of the church. This role serves as the primary creative executor within the Communications Department, responsible for developing visual content, managing digital communication channels, and ensuring Hillside's brand is represented consistently and effectively across all platforms.

Working closely with the Communications Team Lead and Communications Coordinator, this role brings communication plans to life through graphic design, digital content creation, social media management, website and app updates, email communications, and other creative assets that help people engage with the mission and ministry of Hillside Fellowship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Creative Design + Brand Stewardship

  • Create compelling visual assets that support church-wide and ministry-specific communications, including digital graphics, promotional materials, presentations, signage, and print collateral
  • Serve as a steward of Hillside's visual identity by ensuring communications consistently reflect established branding, style standards, and design principles
  • Translate communication objectives into creative solutions that are visually engaging, clear, and aligned with Hillside's mission and culture
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders and the Communications Team to develop creative concepts that effectively communicate ministry initiatives, events, and opportunities
  • Maintain a high standard of excellence, creativity, and attention to detail across all visual communications

Content Creation + Digital Communications

  • Create and publish content across Hillside’s digital communication platforms, including social media, email communications, website content, and mobile app content
  • Develop engaging digital content that supports ministry initiatives, promotes events, and encourages connection and discipleship
  • Assist in creating visual and digital assets that support communication campaigns and church-wide initiatives
  • Ensure content is accurate, current, visually compelling, and aligned with Hillside's communication strategy
  • Maintain consistency in voice, style, and presentation across digital communication channels

Social Media + Online Engagement

  • Implement and manage Hillside’s social media presence across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other emerging channels
  • Create engaging social media content that reflects Hillside's mission, values, and ministry priorities
  • Monitor social media activity and respond appropriately to comments, messages, and engagement opportunities in a welcoming and winsome manner
  • Track social media performance and provide recommendations that improve engagement and effectiveness
  • Gather, analyze, and report on social media, website, email, and other digital communication metrics to provide insights, measure effectiveness, and support communication strategy
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, platform updates, and best practices in social media and digital communication

Website, App + Email Communications

  • Maintain and update Hillside’s website and mobile app, ensuring information remains current, accurate, and user-friendly
  • Create, build, and distribute church-wide and ministry-specific email communications in alignment with established communication plans
  • Manage digital content updates related to events, registrations, ministries, resources, and sermon content
  • Help optimize digital communication channels to improve engagement, accessibility, and user experience
  • Ensure the ongoing effectiveness and functionality of Hillside's digital communication platforms

Livestream + Digital Experience Support

  • Lead the communication and digital content needs associated with livestream services and online ministry environments
  • Collaborate with Worship, Production, and Communications teams to ensure consistency across digital ministry experiences

Collaboration + Ministry Support

  • Partner with the Communications Coordinator to ensure communication plans are executed effectively and on schedule
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders to understand communication needs and develop creative solutions that support ministry objectives
  • Build healthy working relationships with staff, volunteers, and vendors while contributing to a culture of collaboration and service
  • Demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to support the broader needs of the Communications Team

Additional Responsibilities

  • This role may include additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission and leadership of Hillside Fellowship, with the scope of responsibilities growing and adapting as organizational needs change

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Faith + Character

  • Demonstrates a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and embodies the culture and values of Hillside Fellowship (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Must be a member of Hillside Fellowship or willing to pursue membership within six months of hire
  • Approaches creative work and collaboration with humility, excellence, and a servant-hearted mindset
  • Demonstrates initiative, creativity, adaptability, and a desire to continually grow and improve

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, media, digital communications, or a related field preferred
  • Graphic design experience required, with a strong portfolio demonstrating visual communication across digital and print platforms
  • Experience creating content for social media, websites, email communications, and digital marketing channels preferred
  • Experience in a ministry, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization preferred
  • Experience with content creation, digital communication platforms, and brand management preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong graphic design skills with proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (or comparable design tools)
  • Strong visual communication skills with an eye for design, branding, layout, and aesthetics
  • Ability to create engaging content across multiple digital platforms and communication channels
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and resourcefulness in identifying opportunities to improve communication effectiveness and audience engagement
  • Strong attention to detail in both visual presentation and content accuracy
  • Working knowledge of website management platforms, email communication tools, and social media platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Mailchimp, Asana, and related communication tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining creativity and quality
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback, adapt quickly, and work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to pass a background check is required
