We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the highest standards of fiscal integrity. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a collaborative team environment and is motivated by the opportunity to bring structure and efficiency to a mission-driven nonprofit organization. You will oversee full-cycle accounting, lead complex audits, and drive the implementation of scalable financial systems.

What You'll Do:

  • Financial Leadership: Oversee the accounting operations with strict compliance with GAAP and organizational standards.
  • Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external audits, coordinating documentation and ensuring a clean audit.
  • System Optimization: Lead accounting system and reporting optimization and automating repetitive tasks.
  • Team Management: Mentor and manage accounting staff, overseeing daily operations including a six-day month-end close, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly variance reports and financial statements for the CFO and senior leadership, highlighting key metrics and trends.
  • Budgeting & Strategy: Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecast results, and provide strategic recommendations for process improvement.
  • Operational Excellence: Streamline the financial reporting and month-end close process to improve accuracy and reduce timelines.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience: 10+ years of comprehensive accounting and finance experience.
  • Leadership: 5+ years of experience in a management or leadership capacity, with a proven ability to build and mentor teams.
  • Technical Skills: Deep expertise in GAAP financial reporting and proficiency with major accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (Finance focus).
  • Nonprofit Familiarity: Prior experience or a strong interest in nonprofit accounting is a plus.
