POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Operations Manager assists in the oversight all operational aspects of an assigned facilities, area or region focusing on: safety, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, resource management, cost control, and income generation. Assists to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, and safety programs in area of responsibility. Supports company’s strategic goals in operations activities to meet or exceed business objectives.
The Assistant Operations Manager demonstrates and adheres to the company values of: safety, honesty, ownership, respect and teamwork to ensure successful partnership with customers and employees that result in OmniTRAX’s continued success.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Operations Manager in the oversight of operational business processes to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective operations; assist with SOP evolvement and continuous process improvements at assigned facility or area
- Act as extension of site leadership to enforce safety policies and procedures; enhance safety culture and buy-in
- Respond to and investigate all incidents and accidents; conduct root cause analysis; recommend risk mitigation strategies; assist with completion of appropriate paperwork and reporting
- Ensure equipment and facility is clean and maintained; enforce compliance with any and all cost control and cost avoidance initiatives
- Maintain records and perform reporting: utilize appropriate technology program
- Assist Operations Manager to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules and regulations, Company policies and procedures
- Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of facility operations and maintenance; ensure job functions are being performed safely and properly by all employees; ensure all equipment is being operated and maintained to OmniTRAX standards
- Analyze, problem solve, recommend, and initiate corrective measures when abnormal operating conditions or system malfunctions occur
- Assist with training and development of employees; communicate effectively and respectfully with subordinates and upper management
- Communicate professionally with customers; respond timely to customer inquiries and attend customer operations meetings as required
OTHER DUTIES
- Operate and maintain various types of equipment as required
- Oversee setup of new facilitates and equipment as required
- Participate in and lead training as required
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
- Wear required protective equipment (PPE) such as: hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, safety glasses etc.
- Work various days, shifts and on-call to meet customer and business needs; work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- May supervision-exempt employees
- Coordinate with HR and Operations Manager to assist with employee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, documentation, employee development and discipline
- Promote and enhance safety and productivity of all employees through selective training, motivation and performance coaching
- Set the example, create and lead the culture of mutual respect, cooperation and attention to detail for employees to deliver profitable execution on business goals
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2 years’ related experience with transload or material handling, bulk carrier or railroad
- Respect safety: safety is the first priority
- Understand and comply with all requirements for any emergency
- Experience operating machinery and performing basic mechanical service and repairs
- Self-motivated; work independently to complete quality work
- Work cooperatively with superiors and employees as a team player
- Safety focused and detail oriented
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with all level of employees and business associated in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Produce effective verbal and/or written daily reports for internal and external use
- Read, comprehend and comply with published rules, procedures and manuals, inspection checklists, government regulation, operating and maintenance instructions, memos and other work-related information
- Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills resulting in effective resolution
- Basic computer skills
- Write legibly to complete reports and other work documents
- Professional integrity and accountability
- Work in fast-paced, collaborative environment
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- 5+ years’ experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil & Gas industries
- 1-year supervisory experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather including: snow, rain, heat and sub-freezing temps
