What you’ll be doing

As the Junior Finance & Accounting Analyst, you will support the Finance Department by providing financial planning, analysis, reporting, and operational accounting support. This role is responsible for assisting with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, variance analysis, management reporting, monthly billing, credit card reconciliations, and other accounting functions. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with attention to detail and enjoys working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

In this role, you will:

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly forecasts, annual budgets, long-range financial plans, and related updates.

  • Analyze financial and operational results compared to budget and forecast, investigate significant variances, and communicate findings to management.

  • Support the validation and maintenance of financial forecasts and planning assumptions.

  • Prepare monthly financial analyses and management reports for leadership review.

  • Assist with financial modeling for new business opportunities, strategic initiatives, cost-saving projects, capital expenditures, and profitability analyses.

  • Support the preparation of executive leadership, board, and committee presentations.

  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned.

  • Support strategic decision-making through data analysis and financial insights.

  • Assist with internal and external financial reporting requirements.

Accounting & Operational Finance

  • Prepare and process monthly billing for various programs, contracts, and funding sources.

  • Review billing data for accuracy and completeness and work with operational teams to resolve discrepancies.

  • Reconcile monthly credit card transactions and ensure proper coding and supporting documentation.

  • Assist with account reconciliations, including balance sheet and income statement accounts.

  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

  • Monitor expenses and identify unusual transactions or trends.

  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management activities as needed.

  • Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.

  • Support external audits and financial reviews by preparing schedules and requested documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Qualifications

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field. 

Experience 

  • 2+ years of experience in finance, accounting, FP&A, or a related role.  

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required. 

  •  Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite preferred.  

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.  

  • Experience in nonprofit organizations is a plus. 

Skills 

  • Financial modeling and forecasting experience.  

  • Budgeting and variance analysis experience.  

  • Billing and account reconciliation experience.  

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and funding structures preferred.  

  • Ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment 

This position requires the employee to regularly stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee must be capable of writing, using a computer keyboard, telephone and related office equipment. Ability to lift 10lbs. required.
