The Tax Accountant II position is focused around the area of fuel excise and indirect tax returns for Colonial Group, Inc. and affiliated subsidiaries. This position facilitates the efficient, timely, and accurate filing of all monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel excise, sales tax, property tax, and additional federal and compliance filings. This role may also include participation in projects associated with the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of assigned direct and indirect tax returns and related reports.
General Responsibilities may include:
- File monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual sales and fuel excise tax filings for multiple companies in various states/jurisdictions.
- Research nexus issues for new and existing jurisdictional compliance.
- Reconcile tax general ledger accounts monthly to determine tax liabilities are accurately reported.
- Respond to internal and external tax compliance research requests and provide assistance as needed.
- Assist with state excise, sales and property tax audits, as well as jurisdiction tax notice response and resolution, including jurisdictional inquiries.
- Interpret and ensure compliance with tax related statues, regulations, and legislation including excise taxes and state and local taxes.
- Assist with special projects, research, indirect tax filings, or additional compliance tasks, as needed.
Requirements:
- BS/BA Degree in Accounting or related Tax business degree.
- 3-5 years’ experience working directly with excise tax and/or indirect tax filing and compliance. Motor fuel experience a plus, but not required.
