Job Title: Manager – Project & Delivery Management (Data Engineering)

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Manager with strong expertise in project management, resource planning, and delivery governance, who can effectively run and report on projects using Azure DevOps. The ideal candidate will have prior experience leading data engineering teams and will bring a strong balance of delivery discipline, capacity management, and technical understanding to ensure predictable and high‑quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Delivery Management

• Lead end‑to‑end project execution, ensuring delivery against agreed scope, timelines, and quality standards.
• Own project planning, estimation, and execution using Azure DevOps, including sprint planning, backlogs, and release management.
• Establish and maintain robust project reporting using DevOps metrics such as burndown charts, velocity, capacity, and delivery forecasts.

Resource & Capacity Management

• Plan and commit team capacity aligned to agreed delivery plans and stakeholder priorities.
• Actively manage demand vs. capacity to ensure sustainable workloads and predictable delivery.
• Proactively identify resource constraints, risks, and dependencies, and drive mitigation plans.

Team Leadership & Workload Management

• Effectively manage team workload, balancing BAU and project work to avoid burnout and delivery risk.
• Provide clarity on priorities, ownership, and timelines to the team.
• Support team members through coaching, feedback, and day‑to‑day delivery oversight.

Data Engineering Leadership

• Lead and manage a data engineering team, ensuring strong engineering practices and delivery standards.
• Partner with architects, product owners, and stakeholders to translate requirements into executable delivery plans.
• Bring a solid understanding of data engineering concepts to effectively challenge, guide, and support technical decisions.

Stakeholder & Governance Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and delivery decisions.
• Provide clear, concise, and data‑driven updates to senior stakeholders.
• Drive governance practices aligned to agile and DevOps ways of working.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong expertise in project management and resource allocation in an agile delivery environment.
• Hands‑on experience running projects using Azure DevOps, including sprint execution and reporting.
• Proven ability to plan, commit, and manage team capacity against delivery plans.
• Prior experience leading data engineering teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to balance delivery rigor with people‑centric leadership.

Nice to Have

• Previous hands‑on or architectural background in data engineering.
• Experience working with modern data platforms and pipelines (e.g., cloud data ecosystems).
• Agile / PMI / PRINCE2 or similar delivery certifications.
