Role Overview

The GL Accountant plays a crucial role within the Finance Shared Service Centre team during a period of rapid growth. This role ensures accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting and provides accounting support to various parts of the organization in Belgium and across the wider MVHE Group.

Reporting to the Accounting Senior Manager, this role offers a hybrid working arrangement (50%) in our Zaventem (Belgium) or we would also consider someone being in the Amsterdam office with occasional travel to clinics across these markets.

Summary of the Role

The Accountant supports end-to-end accounting (Record-to-Report) and statutory compliance activities for Belgian legal entities. The role ensures accurate financial records, timely close processes, and compliance with Belgian GAAP (BE GAAP) and local regulations under supervision. This role requires collaboration with various internal stakeholders, including market operations, finance teams, clinics and external auditors. The role holder will work across multiple reporting systems, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external standards such as US GAAP and local GAAP. The position demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex accounting processes in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepayments, provisions, reclasses)

• Perform periodic balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances

• Support period end close activities

• Maintain general ledger integrity and data accuracy

• Assist with intercompany accounting and reconciliations

• Analyze P&L and balance sheet movements and provide explanations

• Assist in preparing annual financial statements under BE GAAP

• Support preparation of audit files, reconciliations and supporting documentation

• Support preparation of VAT and tax filings

• Respond to auditors’ requests under guidance in a timely manner

• Ensure compliance with MVHE Group accounting standards and support implementation of new policies

• Contribute to ad-hoc tasks and continuous improvement initiatives

Education & Professional Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a similar field 

Progress toward accounting certification is a plus

Knowledge & Experience

1-3 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting within large, matrix organizations, Shared Service Centres and/or audit firms (Big 4)

Exposure to Belgian entities or compliance is desirable

Analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.

Able to work under time pressure, with advanced MS Office / Excel skills 

Experience in supporting statutory or group audits is a plus 

Experience working within Oracle ERP is desired 

Fluent in French and English, Dutch desirable
