Senior Software Engineer, Frontend (Marketplace Web)

Location: New York (On-site)

Compensation: $170,000 – $210,000 USD + equity

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to act as a technical anchor for a large-scale Marketplace web rebuild. You will help redefine the core user experience across the highest-traffic pages and establish scalable frontend architecture patterns that will guide the team for years to come.

This is a high-impact senior role with Staff-level scope, offering a clear path toward Tech Lead ownership on major product areas.

You will contribute directly to a platform serving millions of users and play a key role in shaping performance, scalability, and conversion-driven product experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Own end-to-end delivery of high-traffic product surfaces (e.g., search and listing pages)
• 
  Lead technical design discussions and write RFCs/design documents
• 
  Define scalable frontend architecture patterns (routing, caching, data fetching, state management, analytics)
• 
  Improve Core Web Vitals, SEO, and conversion metrics
• 
  Raise engineering quality through code reviews, mentoring, and standards
• 
  Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams on API contracts
• 
  Improve frontend tooling (testing, CI/CD, observability)

Requirements

• 
  7+ years of experience in frontend or full-stack web development
• 
  Strong expertise in React and modern frontend architecture
• 
  Experience with SSR/SPA hybrid frameworks (e.g., Next.js-style systems)
• 
  Proven track record of leading large-scale rewrites or migrations
• 
  Strong understanding of performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, SEO)
• 
  Experience working with testing and production-grade systems
• 
  Ability to lead ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives

Nice to Have

• 
  Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind, UI component systems (e.g., shadcn/ui)
• 
  Playwright or similar testing frameworks
• 
  AWS, Datadog, or modern observability tools
• 
  Backend familiarity (Node.js, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• 
  Experience with marketplace or two-sided platforms

Ideal Profile

We are looking for engineers with strong technical judgment, high learning velocity, and experience in high-scale product environments. Candidates from top-tier engineering organizations or equivalent high-standard environments are strongly preferred.

Marketplace experience is a plus.
