Summary

We are seeking a Systems Design Engineer to focus on the design, prototyping, and vendor collaboration for custom camera, lensing, and hardware systems used in live sports and entertainment. This role emphasizes taking concepts from initial design through functional prototype and working with vendors to transition systems into production and deployment. The ideal candidate thrives in the design and prototyping phase - conceiving, modeling, testing, and refining systems that expand the boundaries of sports broadcasting and immersive experiences. You will collaborate closely with internal engineering teams, vendors, and production partners to ensure designs are innovative, technically sound, and production ready.

Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Prototyping: Design and prototype camera system deployments, including lens evaluations and hardware integration for sports and entertainment applications.
  • Concept Development: Translate creative and operational requirements into practical engineering designs, balancing innovation with reliability.
  • Prototype Validation: Build and test prototypes to evaluate performance, durability, and usability prior to internal production runs or vendor handoff, including specialized mounting equipment, enclosures, and general equipment requirements.
  • Internal Builds & Quality Assurance: Manage and execute internal production runs of prototypes, performing hands-on assembly and quality assurance to validate design integrity and build quality.
  • Documentation: Create detailed design specifications, drawings, and test results for manufacturing.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure successful transition from prototype to production.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with broadcast engineers, production teams, and operators to validate system performance in real-world environments.
  • Innovation Pipeline: Research emerging technologies and materials to push the boundaries of physical hardware design.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in systems design engineering, hardware prototyping, or broadcast technology.
  • Background in camera systems, optics, robotics, or video hardware design.
  • Experience with CAD modeling, rapid prototyping tools, and advanced materials.
  • Experience developing prototypes and handing off to vendors/manufacturers for production.
  • Ability to rapidly build, test, and iterate designs with a hands-on engineering approach.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors and manufacturing partners to deliver production-ready systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills in the design and prototyping phases.
  • Strong communication skills to convey design intent and collaborate across teams.
  • Enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a passion for innovation in sports and entertainment technology.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience developing specialty camera and capture systems, including pylon cameras, robotic rigs, and high-resolution/high-framerate capture setups.
  • Knowledge of sports league broadcast standards (NFL, NCAA, NBA, NHL, etc.).
  • Background in immersive or next-generation fan experiences (XR, AR/VR, shared reality).

The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $105,000 to $135,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.

Cosm is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
