The Actuarial team delivers a comprehensive range of core actuarial services to ACC and external stakeholders, ensuring the Scheme is managed in a sustainable way so that it’s fair and effective for New Zealanders now, and in the future. There is a variety of other work including assessments of the effectiveness of injury prevention programmes, input to policy and other scheme design questions, input to wider ACC strategy, and involvement in project work.

About the roles | Mō te tūranga mahi

We’re looking for a talented actuarial professional to join our team in either an Actuary or Actuarial Advisor position.

These roles provide actuarial insight, analysis, and advice to support sound decision‑making, financial sustainability, and improved outcomes for New Zealanders. You will apply actuarial practices in a business context, contribute to complex projects, and support ACC’s insurance schemes through high‑quality actuarial analysis, modelling, and communication.

You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering actuarial insight and advice that contributes to keeping Kiwis safe at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

The appointing range for the Actuary is $138,301 - $187,105 and the appointing range for the Actuarial Advisor is $101,287 - $137,029. Appointment within the salary bands depends on skills and experience.

ACC also offers 9% superannuation on top of base salary.

The preferred location is Wellington, but Auckland based will be considered.

About you | Mōu

We’ll be looking for:

  • Highly developed analytical skills including the ability to work with advanced mathematical and statistical models and Excel formulas.
  • Ability to easily learn and navigate programming languages and logical frameworks.
  • A commitment to delivering quality actuarial services, both from a technical and a customer perspective.

As an Actuary you will bring:

  • You’ll be a Qualified Actuary (at least Associate level) and an active member of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries.
  • Seven or more years of actuarial work experience and proven experience applying actuarial practices in a business context.
  • Excellent relationship management and networking skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to stakeholders at all levels including senior management/Board level.
  • Project management and leadership skills to deliver, and support the team to deliver, to agreed standards and times.
  • Ability to effectively develop the team through delegation, empowerment, support and coaching.
  • A strategic and systems thinking approach and thought leadership for the Actuarial function.

As an Actuarial Advisor you will bring:

  • Completion of at least the initial actuarial exams and commitment to continued study and exam success, being an active member of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries.
  • Four or more years of actuarial work experience and proven experience applying actuarial practices in a business context.
  • Strong relationship building and collaboration skills and the ability to build rapport with your key stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain insights clearly.
  • Ability to deliver pieces of work to agreed standards and times.
  • Ability to provide guidance and training to junior staff members to support on the job development and achievement of wider team goals.
