Description

The Patient Mobility Technician assists with the safe movement, positioning, and mobilization of patients across the healthcare facility. Working closely with all medical staff, the technician plays a key role in supporting patient recovery by promoting early mobility, preventing deconditioning, and ensuring the use of proper body mechanics and mobility equipment. The Patient Mobility Technician supports safe patient handling and mobility practices with education and training. The Mobility Tech will support patient extractions, patient lifts, patient transport jobs, and coaching of staff on the use of all Lift equipment associated with the facility. The Mobility techs are the experts for supporting the safe patient handling program under OSHA guidelines. Department will ensure timely and efficient job turns for patients and materials with checking battery life on equipment and support supply needs for each equipment specific to patient needs. Other supporting assistance is provided at varying levels based on the career category they fall in as outlined below. This position will perform all of the above duties including training of new hires and the ability to step in and assumed roles within Support Services transport duties when needed.

• Assist patients with transfers (bed to chair, repositions etc.), ambulation, and repositioning in accordance with individualized mobility plans.
• Use proper techniques and equipment such as gait belts, slide sheets, transfer boards, and mechanical lifts to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Support early and progressive mobility initiatives in critical care, post-operative, or medical-surgical units.
• Work collaboratively with clinical staff to assess patient readiness and mobility status.
• Maintain, clean, and store mobility equipment properly and report any equipment malfunctions.
• Follow infection prevention, fall prevention, and safety protocols.
• Respond promptly to mobility-related calls and requests from nursing and therapy staff.

• Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and stand for extended periods.

Ability to read, speak, understand, and follow written and verbal directions in English with a basic range of comprehension sufficient for understanding job specific forms, documents, signs, symbols and written instructions.
Recognizes and comprehends emergency and urgent situations and can react and communicate so others understand.
Ability to train other staff members on work duties, follow instructions, and schedule flexibility due to needs of hospital.
To perform duties of SS Tech must also demonstrate computer skills in utilizing the various software’s of the workstation.


High School graduate or GED preferred
Previous Call Center preferred
Current Dispatch/Patient Transport experience
Basic Math Skills and knowledge of the 24 hour time system is also preferred
Willingness to work in sister departments such as (Storeroo, Mailroom, and Print Shop). Always willing to learn other job functions to be a universal tool for the Support Services Department
