A Day in the Life

While this role leads a defined functional area, it reports to the ICT R&D Leader and carries shared accountability for the overall success of ICT R&D. In partnership with peer functional and therapy leaders, this role is responsible for ensuring alignment, integration, and collective delivery of new product development (NPD) and post market programs across all ICT therapy groups—driving portfolio execution, technical rigor, and enterprise outcomes beyond individual team boundaries

The Senior Director, Delivery Systems Engineering leads end to end engineering execution for delivery system development across the ICT portfolio. This role focuses on predictable, high quality development of complex delivery platforms, partnering closely with therapy-aligned product development leaders to drive disciplined execution, technical excellence, and talent development.

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Lead global Delivery Systems Engineering teams responsible for design, development, verification, validation, and sustaining engineering for delivery platforms
  • Drive identification of novel delivery system solutions including new materials, designs, and approaches
  • Drive execution excellence across new product development programs, ensuring predictable delivery of scope, quality, and timelines
  • Strategically engage with internal and external suppliers to ensure alignment to R&D roadmap, accelerate innovation, and improve technological capabilities
  • Partner with Therapy Product Development Leads to translate portfolio strategy into disciplined delivery execution
  • Develop and standardize delivery engineering processes, tools, and technical standards across ICT
  • Define multi-year plan for Galway delivery system needs to align with overall Medtronic site optimization strategy and therapy roadmap needs
  • Build strong technical and leadership capability within Delivery Engineering, including succession and engagement
  • Ensure compliance with design controls, quality systems, and regulatory expectations
  • Represent delivery system Engineering with senior executives and external partners including physicians and suppliers, serving as a credible technical and people leader

Key Skills & Experience  

  • Requires a level 8 degree and minimum of 15 years of engineering experience in regulated product development with 10+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum 13 year’s engineering experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience in regulated product development
  • Strong background in delivery system or catheter-based device development
  • Proven ability to lead large matrixed teams and deliver complex programs
  • Passion for execution rigor, talent development, and continuous improvement

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.
