At FactSet, our values are the foundation of everything we do. They express how we act and operate, serve as a compass in our decision-making, and play a big role in how we treat each other, our clients, and our communities. We believe that the best ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time, and that curiosity is the key to anticipating our clients’ needs and exceeding their expectations.
Your Team’s Impact
FactSet's Deep Sector Oil & Gas team delivers critical fundamental analysis and sector-specific content to a diverse client base including investment banks, private equity firms, commodity traders, oil and gas producers, midstream operators, and refiners. We drive innovation by developing market-relevant analytics and industry-leading data solutions that address today's and tomorrow's energy challenges.
You will join a multinational team of subject matter experts and data engineers to identify, collect, and transform oil and gas asset-level data into actionable intelligence for FactSet's diverse user base. Your core focus will be on daily natural gas pipeline flow data sourced from pipeline operator websites and government agencies across a wide range of geographies. Additional support will be required to ensure timely collection of monthly reports covering liquids pipeline flows as well as refinery and natural gas processing plant throughput. Our remit is global: if operational data is available at the asset level anywhere in the world, our goal is to capture it, normalize it, and deliver it seamlessly to our users.
A major emphasis is placed on quality control and building robust quality assurance practices to ensure that user-facing data is timely and free of error. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in developing and enforcing these standards, mentoring junior colleagues, and serving as a subject matter expert across our data pipelines and coverage universe.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Oil & Gas Data Specialist, you will:
- Monitor and validate daily natural gas pipeline flow data from pipeline operator websites, government agencies, and other primary sources across multiple geographies.
- Support the timely collection and processing of monthly operational reports covering liquids pipeline flows, refinery throughput, and natural gas processing plant activity.
- Normalize and standardize asset-level data from disparate sources to ensure consistency and accuracy across FactSet's delivery platforms, including APIs, MPC servers, and our flagship Worstation platform.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve quality assurance workflows to detect anomalies, flag errors, and maintain the integrity of user-facing data.
- Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to streamline data ingestion pipelines and enhance automation where possible.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on midstream infrastructure, energy markets, and asset-level operational data, providing context and insight to internal stakeholders and clients as needed.
- Contribute to the expansion of our global coverage universe by identifying new data sources and evaluating their relevance and feasibility for integration.
- Document data sources, collection methodologies, and normalization logic to support operational continuity and knowledge sharing across the team.
What We Are Looking For
Experience & Technical Skills-
- 5+ years of experience working with oil and gas data, energy market analysis, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of midstream infrastructure, including natural gas pipelines, liquids pipelines, refineries, and natural gas processing plants.
- Familiarity with key US data sources such as EIA, FERC, pipeline operator EBB sites, and equivalent international regulatory bodies (e.g. ANP, PPAC, SIE, AER, GIE, ENTSOG, etc).
- Experience with data normalization, quality assurance processes, and working with large, multi-source datasets.
- Proficiency in data tools such as Python, SQL, or similar languages; experience with data pipeline or workflow automation is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to identify and resolve data discrepancies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with API-based data delivery or familiarity with financial data platforms is an advantage.
Education-
- Bachelor's degree is required in a relevant field such as Engineering, Economics, Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- A Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in the oil and gas or energy data industry is preferred.
- We recognize that strong candidates may come from a variety of educational backgrounds, and relevant professional experience will be weighted heavily in the evaluation process.
- The following supplemental credentials are not required but considered a plus:
- Python, SQL, or other data-focused certifications.
- GIS or spatial data training, given the global and asset-level geographic nature of the data.
