How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Field Staff, Restoration & Infrastructure performs a variety of field work activities which support the migration monitoring program at Tommy Thompson Park Bird Research Station. Working with the Bander-in-Charge, the Field Staff will participate in daily bird counts, bird banding activities, data recording and management, housekeeping and maintenance, and program interpretation. Regular work hours depend on sunrise – shifts start an hour before sunrise.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Executes on a number of general field work duties related to specific project/program area
  • Collects and inputs field data according to project scope
  • Ensures that quality control and assurance measures are followed at all steps of the work process
  • Participates in the daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning
  • Maintains equipment (storage, organization, minor repairs)
  • Incumbents may also be assigned other duties

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • Minimum pursuing a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field
  • Valid Class G2 Driver’s License
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Familiar with basic equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
  • Proficiency in MS Office for general office communications (I.e., mail, spreadsheet and word processing software, including online enablement software such as MS teams and SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
  • Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 45lbs
  • Experience handling animals/wildlife
  • Familiar with songbirds common in Southern Ontario
