CONTROLS DESIGNER
JOB SUMMARY:
Design and troubleshoot complex electrical functions to operate new or existing equipment or machinery used in manufacturing and assembly processes. Ensure the designs are implemented to meet quality and safety standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop new and retrofit controls systems.
- Assist with maintaining existing controls systems.
- Develop electrical drawings and wiring schematics.
- Assist with startup, checkout and commissioning of control systems.
- Work with controls engineers, controls technicians, project managers, and other team members to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Participate on project teams supporting activities related to controls issues.
- Maintain project documents using approved methodology, tools, and templates.
- Assist with developing new business proposals.
- Understand and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and quality standards.
- Create bill of materials and purchase control devices, materials, and equipment.
- Provide support to plants as requested.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's or Associates degree in Electrical/Controls Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Years of Experience: 3+ years in controls design and/or installation in an automotive manufacturing or assembly facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within the manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs and process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
- Knowledge of servo motors, motion controls and drives.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Promis.e.
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and maintain attention to critical details and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to conduct training, interact and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors, plant team members, etc.
- Knowledge of fieldbus technology such as DeviceNet, Probibus and Profinet.
