SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer is responsible for planning and performing activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products to assure customer satisfaction. Contributes to the assurance of performance, reliability, maintainability, schedule adherence and cost control. Relates to Lean systems to achieve continuous improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Participate on our internal audit program. Assist in the maintenance of QMS (Quality Management System) as directed by the Quality Manager
- Initiate and develop standards and methods for the inspection, testing, and evaluation of components and products
- Work to resolve NCRs or quality issues by problem solving and corrective actions
- Ability to assess potential project areas and recognize potential and appropriate areas for improvements. Manage process and productivity improvements
- Design sampling procedures, forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data
- Analyze data utilizing statistical methods and makes recommendations for improvements to product design, manufacturing processes, warranty costs, equipment and personnel
- Ability to interpret and access all applicable Quality Standards and Customer Specific Documents
- Utilize Advanced Product Quality Planning, FMEA, Control Plan and PPAP in the quality planning process of new and existing products and processes. Represents the Quality Assurance Department on our quality planning launch teams to successfully meet the requirements of the product launch
- Assist associates engaged in measuring, auditing and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, products, process quality or reliability
- Assist in the development and providing of quality training to company personnel and suppliers
- Provide support to Sales, Design Engineering and Operations other functions as needed to facilitate the establishment and improvement of new manufacturing sites.
- Facilities planning and design
- Project management and support (ECR, CPR, FMEA, Control Plan & PPAP Requirements)
- Ability to lead a lean team, prepare and present a lean team presentation and coordinate the logistical support of a lean project
- Must be able to work with the customer to resolve the issue and do so with cooperation with the customer to maintain customer satisfaction. All correspondence with the customer must be factual and backed by data
- Must be able to access customer web sites through Covisint or other private sites and review all measurements related to Penda performance and make sure we stay on track with all metrics
- Must be familiar with all Customer Specific Requirements as outlined for the IATF16949 requirement
- Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as company policies and procedures
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar field, with three to five years of directly related experience within a manufacturing environment or an associate degree with four to ten years of directly related experience.
- Must possess a thorough understanding and working knowledge of information technology, manufacturing system, process/project management applications, continuous improvement (Lean Enterprise/Six Sigma) and safety compliance.
- American Society for Quality Control, CQE certification (or in current pursuit of certification preferred, but not required).
- Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt Certification highly desired.
- Knowledge of plastic materials and processes. Knowledge of safety and environmental compliance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described in this section are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, walk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop and bend. The employee must seldom lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described in this section are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The majority of time will be spent in the office area; however, the employee will spend time in the production areas.
The production area temperatures can fluctuate significantly based on the time of year. The noise levels can be moderate to high. The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required while on production floor. The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required. The noise level in the office is usually quiet. The noise level in production is usually moderate.
WORK AVAILABLITY AND TRAVEL
Must have the ability to work all shift schedules, periodic overtime and be available for periodic weekend work. Travel requirements: <10%
