Description
In operation since 1971, the Ticonderoga Mill produces high end printing and technical papers harvested from Adirondack and Vermont forests. With over 600 dedicated employees focused on safety, environment, quality and production, we operate and monitor various pulping and papermaking processes and systems. This role ensures the availability of operating equipment through management of the mill’s predictive maintenance program, lubrication program, and central repair shops. Position manages approximately 11 hourly direct reports.
Primarily responsible for the health and safety of the team, followed closely by efficiency, productivity, engagement, cost control and overall effectiveness of the workforce.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensures productivity and performance of the Predictive Maintenance and central maintenance crews. Successful candidate is expected to recognize as well as counsel employees concerning work performance.
- Responsible for crew safety, including conducting daily safety meetings, observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.
- Ensures quality work is performed by the crew.
- Works effectively with Reliability Engineers, Process Managers, and Maintenance leadership to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues. Uses initiative to seek out root cause of failures and take steps to correct and prevent recurrences. Assists in the RCFA corrective actions and helps eliminate chronic equipment issues.
Actively participates in the Manufacturing Work System process, including:
- Ensures work notifications are generated by the predictive maintenance technicians.
- Assists in prioritization of area daily work schedules.
- Schedules routes and inspections to maximize productivity.
- Participates in MWS meetings in all areas of the mill as required to bring lubrication and vibration issues to the MWS Teams.
- Solicits recommendations from technicians on improving existing procedures, routes, and Standard Job Plans.
- Leads the Predictive Maintenance Element Improvement Team as PdM Champion
- Reviews preliminary drawings, specifications, and plans from Engineering for accessibility for predictive and lubrication activities and recommends changes when necessary.
- Ensures PdM technicians receive necessary training to maintain and improve their skill levels. Works to maximize technician flexibility through cross-training.
- Ensures Lubrication Technicians receive necessary training to maintain and improve their skill levels. Works with the Area Maintenance Managers and Maintenance Training Coordinator to achieve this.
- Manages daily and weekly schedules and workflow for the Machine Shop and Mechanical Rebuild Shop. Audits work for quality.
- Perform routine weekend duty coverage as mechanical maintenance lead supervisor
