Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving new business, developing strategic partnerships (including PSPs), and delivering innovative payment solutions that enhance merchant value propositions and grow transaction volumes.This role requires a strong understanding of the payments ecosystem, card acquiring, POS integration, and digital commerce, combined with exceptional stakeholder engagement and sales execution capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Identify, originate, and close new merchant acquiring opportunities across key sectors.
  • Drive growth in card acceptance, POS deployments, and digital payment solutions.
  • Execute strategies to increase transaction volumes, market share, and revenue
  • 2. Partner & Ecosystem Development

  • Build and manage relationships with Payment Service Providers (PSPs), fintechs, and technology partners.
  • Build and manage relationships with Segment Relationship Managers, Branch Teams and Segment.
  • Structure and negotiate commercial agreements aligned with bank strategy
  • Enable POS integration and value-added services through third-party partnerships.
  • 3. Client Solutioning

  • Design tailored payment solutions for merchants, including:
    • POS solutions.
    • E-commerce gateways.
    • Integrated payment experiences.
  • Collaborate with product, risk, and technology teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • 4. Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Analyse industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging payment technologies
  • Identify opportunities in digital payments, embedded finance, and alternative acceptance channels.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmap for Merchant Services
  • 5. Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all business activities comply with:
    • Card Scheme rules (Visa, Mastercard)
    • Regulatory requirements (Bank of Botswana)
    • Internal risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Work closely with risk teams to ensure sound merchant onboarding practices.
  • 6. Stakeholder Management

  • Engage internal stakeholders across:

    • Product
    • Risk & Compliance
    • Technology
    • Operations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to key clients and partners.
  • 7. People Management
  • Lead, inspire, and hold a high-performing team accountable—driving a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and exceptional service delivery while developing talent and decisively addressing under performance .

  • Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in Merchant Services, Payments/Fintech, Business development Sales.
  • Strong understanding of: Card acquiring payment ecosystems, POS and payment gateway integrations.
  • Proven track record in revenue generation and deal origination.
