Description

1. For effective integration into the safety compliance team, contractors should possess:
• Consumer Product Safety Compliance: Deep understanding of consumer product safety standards listed below and testing methodologies.
• Certification Experience: Familiarity with NRTL, CB and international certification processes for electronic devices
• Documentation Expertise: Ability to prepare technical construction files, critical component lists, review test reports
• Troubleshooting Skills: Experience identifying compliance failures
• Pre-Compliance Assessment: Capability to analyze and identify potential risk/issues before formal testing
• Understanding of Role and Responsibility: Engage with internal interdisciplinary teams to drive key aspects of compliance requirement, design analysis, and compliance test. Must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed in an open collaborative peer environment
2. Product Safety Engineers and Support Staff Standards Coverage
Core Safety Standards:
• UL/cUL/IEC/EN 62368-1 2nd, 3rd, 4th editions and National Differences
Additional Standards as supported by UL Solutions Engineering SMEs:
• IEC 62471-1, IEC 60825-1
• UL 4200A
• Outdoor – IP
• Product-specific standards based on device categories such as tablets, e-readers, smart speakers, digital streaming media players, power adaptors, smart glasses, and accessories.

3. Role Focus: Hybrid Testing & Guidance Approach
60% Testing Execution:
• Coordinating pre-compliance assessments
• Engage with UL Solutions to perform validation testing on products
• Proactively engage with UL Solutions test lab for daily status update, testing monitoring and issue resolution.
• Report the current project status, upcoming deliverables, concerns/risk and issues/failures in internal weekly Compliance NPI meeting
• Analyzing test results for accuracy and engage in test data reviews with internal and cross-functional regulatory and safety compliance teams.
40% Strategic Guidance:
• Developing workflows to simplify requirements for non-complex products
• Advising Compliance leadership on regulatory and safety compliance requirements, concerns and risks
• Engage with internal UL Solutions personnel to support research and advisory requests

4. General requirement:

  • Serves as a Project Lead or Reviewer for test programs as assigned.
  • Holds responsibility for defining project scope, test plan, report review and accuracy, meeting of agreed deadlines, and managing project related activities.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities and instructions to lab staff, scheduling testing and reviewing lab work to keep project completion dates.
  • Studies and understands test standards, testing technology, regulations, and certifications for scope of responsibility.
  • Has detailed understanding of test techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • Directs standard test procedures when necessary.
  • Takes lead on project status communications and client concerns.
  • Works with team to resolve issues.
  • Follows up on contacts from clients and communicates technical issues, Test Standard explanations, certification requirements and UL procedures and requirements.
  • Works with team to address client concerns and resolve issues.
  • Supports Sales staff to determine project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
  • Works with Sales and customer to negotiate completion dates and sample requirements.
  • Manages assigned staff to Title Responsibilities and CBS Role goals.
  • Sets Goals and provides feedback on achievements through regular communications and Performance Appraisal process.
  • Understands and evaluates Revenue production for area of responsibility.
  • Understands and evaluates Costs to produce revenue for project assigned.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques for the project and assigned customer level.
  • Travel may be possibly required to conduct or witness tests at other UL locations or client sites, attendance at industry related events, and other.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • University degree in Business Administration or related field plus generally 6 years of directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify needs for projects or programs, formulate objectives, plan and execute projects and/or programs, and manage programs.
