Description

The Deputy Director of Ophthalmology is responsible for supporting the Clinic Director in managing the clinic's operational and financial performance. This position will work to improve patient throughput, manage frontline technical staff, and oversee complex projects impacting the ophthalmology clinics. Duties Responsibilities: Conduct clinic staff meetings and huddles. Provide planning and direction to the clinic staff, including customer service registration, surgical coordinators, and technical staff. Analyze and addresses patient and/or provider issues, responsible for communicating follow-up information to leadership and administrative staff. Train staff on new guidelines and policies. Manage and create staff schedules, assign work activities, monitor time and attendance, counsel subordinates, and initiate discipline as needed. Assist the Clinic Director in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards set forth by agencies like IDPH and TJC). Participate in environment of care rounds, safety huddles, and mock tracers. Act for the Director in their absence. Work collaboratively with the Clinic Director to implement the clinic's quality improvement program, including initiatives and metrics aligned with the QI plan for UIH. Assist the Clinic Director in evaluating the unit's financial position by analyzing the clinic's overtime, budget variances, and visit volumes. Direct, supervise and evaluate staff. Train and orient new staff on clinic-specific policies and procedures. Maintain personnel files. Oversee ophthalmic imaging, diagnostic testing, equipment maintenance, and supply management to ensure readiness and continuity of care. Lead workflow improvement initiatives to reduce clinic delays and increase staff/provider productivity. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
