Department Overview: | What is PEOPLE? The University of Wisconsin – Madison’s Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) is one of the Student Engagement and Scholarship Programs (SESP) housed within the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL). PEOPLE is a college prep scholarship program designed for low-income and first-generation college students. Their journey prepares them to be a viable college candidate, apply for admission to, and enroll at the Universities of Wisconsin institutions, with an emphasis on the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they are then supported by our College unit. Since the inception of PEOPLE in 1999, participation has grown from 66 high school students to over 1,100 in the pathway. The Precollege unit serves Precollege Scholars from 9th grade until the completion of senior year in high school. The PEOPLE College Success Center serves PEOPLE Scholars enrolled at UW-Madison from matriculation through to undergraduate degree completion. Over 1,800 PEOPLE Scholars have attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison under the full tuition scholarship. While this role will be directly supervised by PEOPLE College staff, the Graphic Design Intern will work to support the marketing and branding efforts across all units: College, Precollege Madison, and Precollege Milwaukee. About the Student Engagement and Scholarship Portfolio (SESP) The Student Engagement and Scholarship Portfolio (SESP) houses four student scholarship programs (PEOPLE Program, Posse Program, Mercile J. Lee, and First Wave/OMAI) with an infrastructure dedicated to support college attainment. Through intentional programming, personalized advising, and scholarship support, the SESP portfolio prioritizes student success, focusing on academic excellence, leadership, community building, and service. SESP prepares students to enact the Wisconsin Idea, growing as ethical and responsible leaders who can thrive in a world that is diverse, global, and interconnected. |

Schedule: | A flexible weekly schedule will be created in collaboration with the supervisor. It will require approximately 10-15 hours a week throughout the school year. The schedule is flexible Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 am - 5pm with occasional evening and/or weekend work depending on events. Successful applicants must have Friday’s 1:30 PM-3:30 PM blocked off for both semesters for our bi-weekly team meetings. The ideal candidate will be staying in this position through at least May 2027. |

Qualifications: | - Current UW-Madison student in good non-academic standing with the University - Possess cultural humility and responsiveness, as well as a strong capacity to work effectively with a diverse population of staff, scholars, and other stakeholders - Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent graphic design experience Canva or equivalent content creation experience - Able to make at least two-semester commitment from August 2026 through May 2027 - Preference to a PEOPLE Scholar or student with work-study, although not required - Web development experience preferred but not required - Photography/videography experience would be a plus but not required Applicants must be reliable, self-motivated, creative, and detail-oriented. The ideal applicant will have exceptional writing and editing skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, follow detailed instructions, and exercise good judgment on social media posts. They will have an elevated level of experience with social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, etc. Working knowledge of social software to manage social media communications is a plus. |

Position Summary/Job Duties: | The Graphic Design Intern will collaborate with professional staff to generate graphic design projects for the purpose of creating programming logos, merchandise and more, as well as website management. This role will also collaborate with other students on the Marketing Internship Team (who serve in the Digital Communications Intern role).
