We're hiring a Solution Architect at Merkle in Sofia. 

The purpose of the role


We are looking for an experienced E-commerce Solution Architect to lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing digital commerce solutions. This is a customer-facing leadership role that combines deep technical expertise with business acumen to help clients achieve their commerce and growth objectives. 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable eCommerce solutions. 

  • Own the end-to-end solution architecture and business requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives, technical standards, and best practices. 

  • Define technical direction, considering scalability, performance, security, maintainability, and future growth. 

  • Lead architecture discussions, technical workshops, design reviews, and solution discovery sessions. 

  • Performs technical analysis of client needs, their existing software systems, identifies suitable services/technological solutions, and any necessary changes.

  • Performs technical analysis of system integrations, APIs, data flows, and platform capabilities

  • Prepares solution and technical documentation, including solution design documents, technical specifications, data models, integration specifications and system interaction diagrams.

  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Product Owners, Engineering Teams, and Business Stakeholders throughout the delivery process. 

  • Guide development teams and provide technical leadership during implementation. 

  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across teams. 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients by recommending initiatives that improve customer experience, revenue growth, and operational efficiency. 

  • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, competitors, and strategic partnerships. 

  • Represent the company professionally in customer-facing engagements and identify opportunities for business growth. 

  • Provides project pre‑sales support to the Sales team, including offers preparation support, solution scoping, effort estimation, pre‑project calculations and resource needs assessment.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, or technical leadership roles. 

  • Strong background in eCommerce and digital commerce ecosystems. 

  • Experience with enterprise commerce platforms such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce (Magento), SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris), commercetools, Shopify Plus, Intershop, and similar platforms. 

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system integration patterns, APIs, cloud solutions, and software engineering practices. 

  • Hands-on experience across the Software Development Lifecycle and Agile methodologies. 

  • Experience creating and reviewing Functional Requirements, Solution Designs, Technical Designs, and Integration Specifications. 

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Excellent written and spoken English. 

Business & Industry Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end eCommerce operations, including customer journeys, omnichannel retail, fulfilment processes, order management, and supply chain concepts. 

  • Knowledge of digital commerce trends, social commerce, customer experience optimisation, and emerging technologies. 

  • Understanding of retail operating models and enterprise-scale commerce ecosystems. 

  • Awareness of key industry players, competitors, technology vendors, and strategic partnerships.
