The Manhattan Nursing Home of The New Jewish Home is seeking a Director of Clinical Resource Systems/HIM to join out team! This position will sit in 120 West, 106th Street in the Upper, West side of Manhattan.

JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Clinical Resource Systems/HIM is responsible for the integrity of paper and electronic patient data throughout The New Jewish Home.

REPORTS TO: Nursing Home Administrators, Director of Assisted Living Program, Director of Certified Home Health Agency, Director of Day Center Programs[MS1]

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensures that patient records are maintained in an organized, accurate, comprehensive and secure fashion.
  2. Ensures that records of discharged patients are complete and maintained according to facility policy and DOH regulation.
  3. Creates and keeps current policies and procedures to ensure that patient information is collected, stored and secured, according to regulation.
  4. Ensures that diagnosis coding is done accurately and in a timely fashion.
  5. Ensures that patient/family requests for copies of patient data are processed and realized according to facility policy.
  6. Works with the legal department to ensure that all medical/legal claims received are processed according to facility policy.
  7. Works with Risk Management team to ensure potential legal/risk issues are reported to carrier and records maintained as needed
  8. Works with colleagues to ensure that patient data is available for audits being conducted.
  9. Hires, trains, supervises, supports, and evaluates all staff working in the HIM departments.
  10. Ensures payroll is completed accurately and in a timely fashion for all staff working in the HIM departments.
  11. Develops, monitors and meets the annual budget expectations of the HIM departments.
  12. Coordinates/facilitates statistical report preparation as requested.
  13. Ensures that the client and family experience with HIM is optimized.
  14. Keeps current of all new regulations/updates related to health information.
  15. Other duties as assigned.


SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

1. Acts as a professional role model for staff and coworkers.

2. Caring and patient with residents, families and staff

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

4. Familiar with DOH and The Joint Commission regulations, as well as accrediting bodies’ standards

5. Proficiency in related software programs (Outlook, Lawson, ADP), and is an expert on the electronic medical record.

AGE RELATED SILLS AND COMPETENCIES

1. Ability to communicate and interact well with the adult and elderly population.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor degree in Health Information Management or related degree.

2. Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

3. RHIT certification is required

4. Five years experience working in an HIM department, of which at least two are in a supervisory capacity.

5. Excellent problem-solving skills

6. Self-motivated and self-directed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Sitting for long periods of time working at the computer.
