Job Title: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Accounting Manager

Location: Los Angeles, CA (El Segundo, CA)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation: $75,000-$95,000 plus a 5% annual bonus

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and integrity of Mendocino Farms. This position is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, assisting in month-end closings, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player with a strong understanding of accounting principles and a desire to grow within a dynamic and fast-paced restaurant environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes
• Assist with fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules
• Monitor, investigate, and resolve guest chargeback deductions by researching and reconciling guest claims with internal records and credit processors to dispute and recover funds where applicable.
• Complete the Accounting portion of the New Store Opening (NSO) checklist and ensure all accounting responsibilities are fulfilled in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitor and upload check issuance files to the bank’s Positive Pay system to prevent check fraud and ensure timely reconciliation of cleared items.
• Assist in external audit preparation and ensure compliance with internal controls
• Identify and help implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation in accordance with company policy and GAAP standards

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-unit restaurant or retail environment
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems a plus)
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
