Position Title: Group Account Executive - West
Reports To: Group Sales Vice President, West
Department: Group
Term: Permanent Full-Time

Work Arrangements: You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our office in Waterloo, ON or another assigned location within the Waterloo Region, on an as needed basis. Sales related roles may be required to travel based on the assignment.


The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Group Account Executive - West to join our Group Sales Team! The Group Account Executive West is responsible for selling Equitable group products & services by using insight selling techniques and developing strong partnerships with Clients, Advisors, MGA’s and TPA's. Additionally, they are responsible for the growth and profitable management of a portfolio of group benefit clients. What you will be doing:

  • Accountable for achieving new business sales, retention, growth and profitability objectives consistent with mSM level.
  • Increase sales through solicitation activities supporting achievement of business plan goals
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for sales, retention, growth, and profitability for “A” Advisors.
  • Overall responsibility for developing Advisor & Client relationships, understanding their needs, providing insight and advise, teaching, and delivering on their service expectations
  • With the use of Insight reports, tools, and other techniques, offer valuable perspectives to Clients & Advisors, educate & teach them, help them navigate alternatives, and in the process sell additional and complementary products & services
  • Conduct financial negotiations to ensure the assigned block of business renews profitably each year
  • Provide input to the development of division strategy and annual plans
  • Act as the voice of the Client and Advisor, provide Plan Sponsor, market, and competitive intelligence back to Equitable
  • Lead and work collaboratively with the Field Service Team (CRS’s, GSR’s, GMA’s)
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team with other Equitable Employees to execute special projects
  • Lead training sessions and embrace positive change in Equitable strategy and processes
  • Actively manage expenditures to a defined budget

What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of appropriate sales & client management experience
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with strong business knowledge
  • Capable of delivering profitable growth of a block of business in the role
  • Capable of developing new Advisor and Client relationships
  • Capable of developing and executing successful business development plans for “A” Advisors
  • Capable of using insights, advice, negotiating, teaching, problem solving, personal persuasion and influencing skills to drive new sales and manage existing business relationships
  • Knowledge of financial management and arrangements; risk management, underwriting methodologies, block agreements, and profitability drivers
  • Knowledge of contracts, products, guidelines, standards, processes, system capabilities, claims & administration capabilities and practices as well as Equitable’s product & service offering
  • Capable of understanding clients’ changing needs, providing benefits advice, and keeping clients informed of changes impacting benefit plans and Equitable’s value proposition, products, and services
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to enable effective relationships with Advisors as well as Client’s senior management decision makers, and HR personnel
  • Capable of leadership, mentoring, coaching, and collaboration skills with the ability to lead a client service team without direct line authority.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, communication, analytical skills, problem solving, planning, and critical thinking skills
  • University degree or secondary education required. Industry designations an asset.
  • Strong capabilities with computer applications (ex. MS products, CRM, Web Portals)
  • Earn GBA Designation within 3 year of hire and ongoing professional development required
  • Valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle required
