Network Systems Administrator
Position Summary
The Network Systems Administrator is a key member of the Information Technology team responsible for supporting and maintaining the Association's network, server, and communications infrastructure. This position administers and supports enterprise systems, including servers, workstations, network equipment, wireless networks, security systems, websites, and telecommunications services. The Network Systems Administrator installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots, and maintains hardware and software systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. This role also participates in disaster recovery planning, cybersecurity initiatives, and technology improvement projects while providing technical support to end users.
Essential Functions
Network and Systems Administration
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including hardware, operating systems, applications, and system configurations.
- Support and maintain Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Internet connectivity, wireless networks, servers, switches, routers, and related infrastructure.
- Design, configure, test, implement, and maintain network hardware, networking software, and operating system software.
- Monitor network performance and system availability; identify and implement improvements as needed.
- Perform routine network startup, shutdown, maintenance, and monitoring procedures.
- Analyze equipment performance and recommend repair, replacement, or upgrades when necessary.
- Maintain inventory records of IT assets, equipment, licenses, and spare parts; conduct annual asset audits.
User and Technical Support
- Create and manage user accounts and assign appropriate access rights across software applications and systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.
- Confer with users to identify and resolve technical problems and provide timely follow-up.
- Train employees on computer systems, applications, and technology-related procedures.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for technical emergencies.
Security and Disaster Recovery
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and maintain network security measures to protect organizational data, systems, and infrastructure.
- Configure and maintain antivirus, endpoint protection, email security, and other cybersecurity solutions.
- Maintain and execute disaster recovery, backup, and restoration procedures.
- Monitor system logs and security alerts and respond appropriately to incidents.
Website and Communications Systems
- Monitor website performance and availability to ensure uninterrupted operation.
- Upload content, update information, perform basic website maintenance, and assist with web design activities.
- Troubleshoot website issues and coordinate prompt resolution.
- Manage email communication platforms and distribute organizational email campaigns.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain wireless networking systems and security camera systems.
- Support telecommunications systems, including voice services, voicemail, PBX, and related equipment.
Planning, Documentation, and Project Support
- Assist with network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination of data communications systems.
- Plan and implement system upgrades, software patches, equipment installations, and technology deployments.
- Develop scripts and basic automation tools to improve efficiency and streamline processes.
- Evaluate new technologies, software, and equipment and conduct feasibility studies to support purchasing decisions.
- Gather and analyze business requirements to recommend technology solutions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, procedures, configurations, maintenance activities, and network changes.
- Coordinate with vendors and organizational staff regarding technology purchases, support, and implementation projects.
- Maintain logs and records related to network operations, maintenance, repairs, and system performance.
General Responsibilities
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Information Technology operations and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of experience supporting computer networking infrastructure.
- Experience with network administration, server management, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to follow technical instructions, both verbal and written.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Network Administrator Certification.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification.
- CompTIA A+ certification.
- CompTIA Network+ or Security+ certification.
- Experience with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, virtualization technologies, and cloud-based environments.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and network monitoring tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and network security.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to remote sites.
- May require after-hours, weekend, or on-call support for system maintenance and emergencies.
- Ability to lift and move computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
