About the team:
Join our multidisciplinary Buyers Journey team in Amsterdam as a Senior Backend Developer. Working in a hybrid setup, you’ll help by driving the vibrancy and excellency of our platform by directly contributing to the development of buyer facing functionality such as recommendations, categories, home page and many more. We take a data-driven and experimental approach to product development, using Agile practices, A/B testing, and insights-driven research to guide our decisions.
What you'll do:

• Design and build scalable, reliable backend systems
• Write clean, efficient, well-tested code using industry best practices
• Mentor the team in an open, respectful, flexible, empathetic manner
• Help to improve engineering practices, tools, and processes in the areas of system quality, testing strategies, and operational excellence. across the team and organization
• Collaborate within the team and drive decision making in respective area of influence
• Participate in incident response as part of on-call rotation at an organizational level, applying systematic debugging and balancing technical decisions with business and risk considerations.
• Work collaboratively in a hybrid work model (at least once a week in the office)

Who you are:
You have experience in software development in the online arena with a large user base in mid/large size organizations working on large distributed systems. You like and breathe Agile development, focus on delivering, and like to take an active role in improving how we work. You already live in the Netherlands and are entitled to work here.
Core Skills:

• Experience running large systems written in JVM languages like Java, Kotlin or preferably Scala as it is currently the main language of our platform.
• Experience in event-driven microservices architecture.
• Experience with observability tools such as Kibana, Grafana or Prometheus or DataDog or other cloud solutions
• Experience running services in cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
• Experience with relational databases (like MySQL) and NoSQL (like Cassandra).
• Familiarity with designing public and internal facing APIs.
• Experience with agentic AI in software development lifecycle
• Experience in incremental value driven delivery and customer first approach

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with Kafka, ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ, Cassandra and Terraform.
• Experience with Node.js to support cross-functional team activities.
• You have a continuous improvement mindset, challenging the status quo.
