GCP Data Architect (Manager)

Role Type: Individual Contributor (Hands-on Data Engineering)

We are looking for a GCP Data Architect to join the Canada Talend League (CTL) in a Manager-grade Individual Contributor role. This role combines architecture and deep hands-on data engineering expertise to design, build, and optimize scalable, cloud-native data platforms on Google Cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data architectures on GCP.

Act as a hands-on Data Engineer, building and maintaining robust data pipelines and ingestion frameworks.

Create and maintain Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) and ensure data lineage, quality and consistency.

Develop data models, including dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas) for analytical systems.

Gather and translate client business requirements into technical solutions and architecture designs.

Provide end-to-end solutioning for client use cases and data modernization initiatives.

Contribute to RFPs/proposals, including solution architecture, effort estimation, and technical approach.

Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for data workflows using modern DevOps practices.

Troubleshoot and optimize performance of on-premise and cloud data warehouses.

Drive best practices, reusable frameworks and standards across the CTL practice.

Mentor and guide junior engineers and team members.

Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards.

Drive innovation, optimization, and continuous improvement in GCP data platforms.

Required skills:

Strong hands-on experience with:

BigQuery (data warehousing, performance tuning, partitioning, clustering)

Cloud Dataflow (Apache Beam) for batch and streaming pipelines

Cloud Composer (Airflow) for orchestration

Pub/Sub for real-time ingestion

Cloud Storage and BigLake

Expertise in ETL/ELT design patterns and large-scale data processing.

Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python/Java).

Strong understanding of GCP IAM, security, and networking basics.

Experience in CI/CD using tools like Cloud Build, Git, Terraform (IaC).

Knowledge of data partitioning, clustering, and query optimization in BigQuery.

Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/GKE).

Relevant GCP Certifications (Professional Data Engineer, Cloud Architect) preferred.
