Role Purpose

The Data Scientist is responsible for applying advanced statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and deep learning models to extract actionable insights, build predictive models, and solve complex business problems using data from Brentwood Industries' digital intelligence platform. This role collaborates with stakeholders to understand business challenges, formulate analytical solutions, and communicate findings in a clear and compelling manner. The Data Scientist contributes to the organization's data-driven decision-making capabilities and drives innovation through the application of AI.

Key Responsibilities:

Model Development & Implementation

  • Design, develop, and implement machine learning and deep learning models (e.g., neural networks, CNNs, RNNs, transformers) aligned with business needs
  • Select appropriate modeling techniques and architectures based on data characteristics and problem context
  • Train, validate, and test models rigorously to ensure accuracy, performance, and generalizability
  • Optimize models for efficiency and scalability
  • Stay up to date with advancements in machine learning and deep learning
  • Deploy models into production in collaboration with the Digital Intelligence Platform Lead and technical teams
  • Monitor production model performance and retrain as required

Data Analysis & Exploration

  • Explore and analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies
  • Perform statistical analyses to uncover meaningful relationships and insights
  • Develop hypotheses and conduct experiments
  • Use data visualization techniques to communicate findings effectively

Problem Solving & Business Acumen

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into analytical problems
  • Frame business challenges using a data-driven approach
  • Develop analytical and predictive solutions
  • Communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to support decision-making

Data & Feature Engineering

  • Work with existing datasets and contribute to the creation of new datasets in partnership with the Digital Intelligence Platform Lead
  • Identify, define, and engineer relevant features by transforming raw data

Research & Innovation

  • Stay current with developments in data science, AI, and machine learning
  • Evaluate new tools, techniques, and methodologies
  • Contribute to innovative, data-driven solutions
  • Support continuous improvement of data science practices

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with stakeholders under the direction of the Director – Analytics & Digital Intelligence
  • Work closely with Digital Intelligence Platform Lead, Data Analysts, and Business Intelligence teams
  • Report progress, outcomes, and insights into leadership

  • Accuracy and performance of deployed models.
  • Value and impact of insights generated from data analysis.
  • Successful completion of data science projects.
  • Adoption of models and insights by business stakeholders.
  • Contribution to innovation and improvement of data science practices.

Required Skills :

Education

  • Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields
  • Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a data science role, with demonstrated experience in developing and deploying machine learning models. Experience in deep learning is a plus.
  • Strong experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, scikit-learn).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data mining.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn).
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.
  • Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in a data science role, with demonstrated experience in developing and deploying machine learning models. Experience in deep learning is a plus.

Authority & Decision-Making

  • The Data Scientist has the authority to make decisions regarding the selection of modeling techniques, algorithms, and data analysis methods, within the overall project scope and guidelines, in consultation with the Director of Analytics and Digital Intelligence.
  • The Data Scientist can recommend changes to data collection and processing procedures to improve model performance.
  • Significant changes to project scope or methodology require approval from the Director of Analytics and Digital Intelligence.
