Description
Overview
OCI is hiring a Sr Principal Software Engineer for the Crypto organization's KMS team. This senior IC will guide the architecture and operational maturity of a Tier 0 key management service that protects customer cryptographic keys and internal OCI service keys on HSM-backed infrastructure. The role spans hardware, security controls, distributed systems, and service ownership for one of OCI's most critical trust platforms.
Why OCI
OCI gives senior engineers the chance to work on foundational cloud services where technical decisions directly affect customer trust, regional resilience, and the security posture of large-scale enterprise workloads. KMS is a rare opportunity to shape the architecture of a security-critical service from the hardware boundary through distributed control planes while helping define how AI can be introduced responsibly into a Tier 0 environment.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the short- and long-term architecture for OCI KMS across HSM-backed key management, service software, distributed systems, and regional reliability.
Lead technical strategy for a Tier 0 service where durability, recoverability, and operational rigor are fundamental product requirements.
Partner with security, hardware/platform, SRE, product, and dependent OCI service teams to reduce systemic risk and improve service resilience.
Drive operational excellence through observability, incident learning, SLO discipline, failure-mode analysis, and pragmatic engineering execution.
Evaluate and shape responsible AI opportunities for KMS while preserving security boundaries, customer trust, and compliance expectations.
Mentor senior engineers, raise design quality, and influence architecture decisions across teams without requiring direct reporting authority.
Qualifications
Experience leading architecture for large-scale cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, or security-critical services at senior IC level.
Strong background in service reliability, operational excellence, incident response, and production ownership for high-availability systems.
Working knowledge of cryptography, key management, HSM-backed systems, secrets management, identity, or adjacent cloud security domains.
Ability to reason about stateful distributed systems, data durability, dependency isolation, regional failure modes, and recovery design.
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional technical direction across engineering, security, SRE, and product stakeholders.
Sound judgment on AI/ML adoption in regulated or security-sensitive infrastructure environments is preferred.
Certain U.S. based or U.S. customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization/occupational health mandates, and/or drug testing requirements.
