General Sales Manager - BMW of El Cajon

Job Summary:

The General Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing the sales department to achieve dealership sales goals and revenue targets. This role involves overseeing sales operations, developing sales strategies, and ensuring excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a proven track record in automotive sales, and the ability to drive performance in a competitive market.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage the sales team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Set sales targets and develop strategies to achieve them.
  • Motivate and coach sales staff to improve performance and meet sales goals.
  • Oversee daily sales operations, including customer interactions, vehicle sales, and trade-ins.
  • Ensure effective use of dealership management systems and sales tools.
  • Monitor sales processes to ensure compliance with dealership policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and issues in a professional manner.
  • Ensure that the sales team provides exceptional customer service at all stages of the sales process.
  • Analyze sales data and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Develop and execute marketing and promotional campaigns to drive traffic and sales.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create effective advertising and promotional materials.
  • Manage the sales department budget and expenses to optimize profitability.
  • Oversee pricing strategies and ensure competitive pricing of vehicles and services.
  • Review and analyze sales reports and financial statements to make informed decisions.
  • Work with the inventory team to ensure optimal stock levels of vehicles and accessories.
  • Monitor vehicle inventory and make recommendations for stock adjustments.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to secure favorable inventory terms.
  • Prepare and present regular sales reports and forecasts to dealership management.
  • Analyze sales performance metrics and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Track and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure departmental success.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including finance, service, and parts, to ensure a cohesive dealership operation.
  • Participate in regular management meetings and contribute to overall dealership strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Regularly drive customer vehicles for test drives, demonstrations, or service-related needs, ensuring all safety and operational guidelines are followed.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, and train department staff.
  • Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations.
  • Manage discipline and termination of employees in alignment with company policies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience managing a high-volume dealership.
  • Proven track record in the California automotive industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in dealership General Management or Sales Management.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 30 days following date of hire.
    • Valid California Sales License.
    • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
    • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.

    • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
    • Excellent financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
    • Proficient in using dealership management software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
    • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to make strategic decisions.
    • Outstanding organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Robust time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Strong financial and business insight with a focus on enhancing revenue and profitability

  • Frequently stands, walks, sits; uses hands; frequently reaches with hands and arms; frequently talks and hears.
  • Occasionally climbs or balances; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls; occasionally lifts up to 15 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
