Description

Position: Hybrid Accounts Payable Accountant Salary: $28.00 - $30.00 hourly

Are you a detail‑driven finance professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and loves the idea of using your skills to support a mission that strengthens communities? The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is looking for an Accounts Payable Accountant who is ready to bring accuracy, efficiency, and heart to our accounting team.

About The Position:

This is a hybrid position working out of the YMCA Anthony Bowen. Your work ensures vendors are paid on time, employees are reimbursed promptly, and our financial records remain accurate and audit‑ready. At the Y, every dollar supports programs that empower youth, improve health, and uplift communities. As our Accounts Payable Accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our financial operations run smoothly—so our teams can focus on delivering life‑changing services.

What You’ll Do:

You’ll be the backbone of our Accounts Payable function, responsible for:

  • Managing the AP inbox daily and resolving issues with speed and professionalism
  • Processing vendor invoices, employee expense reports, check requests, and credit card transactions
  • Coding payments accurately—including multi‑department allocations
  • Routing invoices for approval and ensuring compliance with corporate policies
  • Executing weekly check runs and meeting payment deadlines
  • Maintaining an accurate vendor database, including W‑9 documentation
  • Communicating with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies
  • Preparing annual 1099 forms
  • Supporting the AP Manager and department leadership with additional tasks

What You Bring:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • At least 2 years of hands‑on Accounts Payable experience
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Ability to prioritize, troubleshoot, and multitask in a fast‑moving environment
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer‑service mindset
  • Self‑motivation and comfort working with limited supervision

Why Join the Y Team?

At the YMCA, we believe in fostering an environment that supports both personal and professional growth. Working at the YMCA is more than just a job — it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. As part of our team, you’ll enjoy:

  • Meaningful Impact: Help secure funding that empowers youth, families, and communities.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for growth, training, and career advancement.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work with a dedicated, mission-driven team committed to serving all.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance to ensure your well-being.
  • Retirement Security: The Y contributes 10% of your salary into our retirement savings plan, with additional contribution options for a 403(b) or Roth plan.
  • Wellness Programs: Free Y membership for you and your family to support your physical and mental health.
  • Self-Care Support: Generous vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • Supportive Work Environment: A commitment to fostering a workplace where all employees feel respected, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Why Work for the YMCA?

You’ll join a mission‑driven organization that values integrity, collaboration, and community impact. You’ll also have opportunities to grow your leadership skills through YMCA certification pathways.
