As a member of Control and Environmental Solutions and Product Management Team, you will join a tightly knit and high-performing group of industry veterans shepherding complex and highly integrated products to the market.
As a Product Owner of Control and Environmental at Crestron, you will drive the development of industry-leading shading solutions to market, focusing on the automated and manual shade product lines, including roller shade, horizontal sheers, drapery system, and more. This will include a focus on developing high-quality mounting hardware with premium luxury finishes, developing silent motors and advanced controls that inaudibly and automatically adjust window covering based on circadian rhythms, daylighting, and other sensor inputs, or at the whim of the homeowner. You will lead the evolution of products and solutions from ideation through launch in a dynamic, creative, and fast-paced environment. Your responsibilities will include championing the product through the development cycle, collaborating with sales and marketing teams during new product and feature rollouts, and engaging with technical support teams throughout the product lifecycle.
As our shading portfolio grows, we are looking for a Product Owner who will collaborate closely with colleagues on the Product Management and Engineering teams to drive product innovation and lead the evolution of new product development and design. You will be expected to develop deep expertise across the full shading ecosystem, including fabrics, hardware systems, installation best practices, shade manufacturing, product sampling, and the role of shading within a whole-home automation environment.
Responsibilities:
- Define and groom product requirements and backlog to ensure development is aligned with the strategic goals of the company and work is prioritized in a way that brings the most value to our customers.
- Write detailed user stories and requirements for new features and new products ensuring they are actionable for engineering, operations and/or vendors.
- Lead agile teams, including engineering teams and partners, through the development process to realize the product roadmap.
- Work with the quality engineering team to define acceptance criteria and refine test plans
- Coordinate resolution of technical issues escalated to engineering and monitor customer support trends to maintain a high-quality product, leading and coordinating debugging and triage efforts.
- Collaborate closely with peers to ensure cohesion across products, brainstorm new approaches, and refine ideas and plans.
- Work with departments including marketing, sales, training, and support to ensure product success. Serve as a product and subject matter expert across the organization.
- Keep abreast of the competitive landscape and trends, with an eye for opportunities to leverage emerging innovations. Use industry knowledge in conjunction with competitive research to help the product management team craft and refine the product roadmap. Identify opportunities for Crestron to add value and differentiate in the market. An understanding of the competitive landscape including Control 4, Savant, Lutron, Hunter Douglas and Draper is a plus.
- Present product, hardware, fabric and/or integrated solutions virtually or in-person (as required). Participate in industry tradeshows and other key market events.
- Execute day-to-day tasks related to fabric lifecycle, sampling programs, and fabric qualification and evaluations.
- Lead updates for internal fabric documentation, such as color coordination charts, fenestration data, and sales enablement tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field, preferred
- 3-5+ years of technical product role (product engineering, product management, technical sales, support, etc.) in window treatments, textiles or smart home technology or a relevant field.
- 3+ years experience with product lifecycle management, including roadmap execution, documentation, validation, and launch readiness.
- 2+ years product management, or working in Phase Gate, Scrum, or other Agile methodologies preferred
- Knowledge of window coverings, shading systems, motorization, or related textiles, including a basic understanding of fabrics, hardware components, and installation considerations.
- Proficiency with, and knowledge of, networking and communications technologies and protocols that are often employed in automated shading solutions such as ZigBee, Thread, Bluetooth, and Matter. Proficiency with and knowledge of Smart Home platforms from Hunter Douglas, Lutron, Google, Apple, and Amazon is a plus
- Understanding of smart home or home automation ecosystems and how devices interoperate within a control system environment.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management, including requirements, change control, validation, and launch readiness
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical components relevant to shading systems (e.g., brackets, motors, power supplies)
- Knowledge of technical documentation, including product requirements, specifications, and test criteria.
- Proactive and quick learner with the ability to master shading technologies, including fabrics, hardware, motors, and control systems; and apply this knowledge to support high-impact product initiatives. Skilled in researching and developing expertise in new materials and technologies relevant to the shading product line.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to track multiple deliverables across complex programs (sampling, vendor updates, requirements). The ability to multitask effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lead team meetings, set expectations, and hold people accountable for delivering the expected product.
- Team player with visible company spirit. Demonstrable ability to quickly gain the trust of key stakeholders, end-users, and co-workers alike.
