Description

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Military Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, is the principal leader responsible for orchestrating and aligning Navy Federal Credit Union’s (NFCU) enterprise-wide engagement with the Department of War (DoW), Veterans Affairs (VA), and affiliated military communities.

This role functions as a convening architect, bringing together internal stakeholders and external partners across Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Public Policy, Community Affairs, Military Affairs, the Office of Financial Opportunity, and strategic veterans and military partnerships. The primary focus is on cultivating, expanding, and stewarding NFCU’s impact with the DoW and VA, while simultaneously serving as the strategic integrator of broader military-aligned relationships that drive long-term value for service members, veterans, and their families.

Strategic Leadership & Partnership Integration:

  • Serve as enterprise lead for Military and Veterans Partnerships, with emphasis on the Department of War (DoW) and Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Integrate efforts across CSR, Public Policy, Community Affairs, Financial Opportunity, and internal business units to ensure alignment and enterprise clarity in all military-facing initiatives.
  • Advise the Chief Executive Officer and collaborate across the C-suite to inform NFCU’s long-term posture and policy priorities in the military space.
  • Maintain strong partnership with Member Strategy Office ensuring military and veterans’ advocacy strategies are aligned and forward-looking.

DoW and VA Engagement Strategy:

  • Lead and deepen institutional partnerships with DoW and VA, ensuring NFCU is a trusted, long-term partner embedded in military and veteran support ecosystems.
  • Foster high-trust relationships with senior DoW and VA officials, military support organizations, and veteran service entities.
  • Represent NFCU in senior-level discussions and advisory councils addressing military financial well-being, transition support, and veterans’ economic empowerment.
  • Provide executive oversight of NFCU’s participation in DoW/VA-led initiatives and policy forums.

Enterprise & Community Partnership Development:

  • Oversee NFCU’s strategic alliances with nonprofits, academic institutions, workforce transition partners, and military-serving financial literacy groups.
  • Guide enterprise participation in veteran reintegration programs and community-driven efforts that advance financial inclusion, education, housing, and wellness.
  • Ensure cohesive coordination among the Public Policy, Community Affairs, Financial Opportunity, and Military Affairs divisions in external engagement strategies.
  • Design scalable partnership models that reflect NFCU’s brand, mission, and commitment to those who serve.

Advocacy, Policy Influence, & Thought Leadership:

  • Monitor, shape, and influence military- and veteran-related legislation, policies and regulation.
  • Serve as a visible and credible NFCU representative across public forums, government panels, and national advocacy initiatives.
  • Publish thought leadership that showcases NFCU’s values, impact, and position as a financial ally to military and veteran communities.
  • Amplify NFCU’s contributions through strategic speaking engagements and national recognition platforms.

Internal Collaboration & Governance:

  • Align cross-functional teams under a unified strategy for military and community partnerships.
  • Advise the marketing, product, experience, and analytics teams on military market nuances, risks, and opportunities.
  • Implement and monitor KPIs and outcome frameworks to measure the impact and value of enterprise partnerships.
  • Foster an internal culture of accountability, transparency, and respect for the military and veteran experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, military studies, business, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of senior leadership experience in public sector relations, veteran affairs, military partnerships, or equivalent military service.
  • Demonstrated success cultivating partnerships across federal agencies (especially DoW and VA), military-aligned nonprofits, and community organizations.
  • Deep understanding of the policy, regulatory, and lived experience dynamics impacting military families and veterans.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and convene stakeholders toward a common mission.
  • Superior communication, negotiation, and relationship-building capabilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public administration, business, or military leadership.
  • Senior military service or extensive executive-level engagement with the DoW and VA.
  • Published voice or recognized thought leader in the military and veterans’ advocacy landscape.
  • Strong familiarity with financial services or membership-based nonprofit institutions.
