We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Vice President, Investment Oversight and Client Solutions to join our BNY Investments Japan team. This role is located in Tokyo, Japan.
This role will play a critical part in supporting the growth of BNY Investments Japan’s advisory and OCIO-related capabilities by providing local investment oversight, governance and execution support for non discretionary investment mandates.
The successful candidate will help establish and maintain a robust investment advisory framework across due diligence, investment governance, regulatory coordination and ongoing portfolio oversight, while partnering closely with internal stakeholders across investment teams, legal, compliance, operations and client-facing teams.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a VP-level professional who combines strong investment judgment with disciplined execution and the ability to navigate a complex regulatory and stakeholder environment.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Lead local implementation, oversight and governance for Japan-based investment advisory and OCIO mandates, including support for new business onboarding, internal approvals, operating model design, and policy and procedure enhancement.
- Oversee investment governance activities across client mandates, including initial and ongoing due diligence, fund eligibility reviews, manager oversight, investment committee materials and approval processes, and validation of recommendations from affiliated investment teams.
- Monitor portfolio activity, performance, risk exposures and mandate guidelines to help ensure alignment with client objectives, internal governance standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate across a broad range of stakeholders including Sales, Client Service, Operations, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Product, Data Analytics, Investment Monitoring, BNY Adviser, Newton and other investment partners to support mandate execution and delivery.
- Support client communications and reporting requirements, including investment-related materials, committee updates, regulator-facing documentation and annual advisor RFP responses, in both Japanese and English.
- Help build a sustainable governance and oversight framework for future Japan OCIO opportunities by identifying process improvements, strengthening controls and contributing to the evolution of local operating practices.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Bachelor’s degree and professional investment qualification (e.g. CFA/CMA) preferred.
- 8-10 years of experience in investment management, investment advisory, investment oversight, fund research, manager oversight, or a related function.
- Strong understanding of Japan investment advisory and asset management regulatory requirements, including governance expectations, reporting obligations and the practical control framework required to support a compliant business.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting and overseeing due diligence, fund eligibility assessments, manager monitoring and investment committee governance, ideally across multi-asset, fund-of-funds, thematic or OCIO solutions.
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams, exercise sound judgment, challenge recommendations appropriately and drive outcomes across functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English.
- Proven ability to work independently in a complex, evolving environment and to balance commercial priorities with regulatory, fiduciary and control responsibilities.
